63.20 Montreal Completes All-Rookie Catcher Platoon

Last season Montreal employed a veteran catching platoon of Jamie Behnke and Loren Hall. Hall lost his job to rookie Qaseem Kahil during spring training and now his running mate has met the same fate.

The Blazers announced today that they have placed Behnke on waivers and added 25-year-old Pablo Trevino to their 40-man roster. Trevino was selected out of high school by Montreal in the third round of the 2054 amateur draft.

The left-handed Kahil will remain the primary catcher. Trevino will start against left-handed pitching. This season in AA Trevino is hitting .371 versus left-handed pitching in 37 plate appearances. Behnke's once-excellent glovework had declined; scouts praise Trevino's defense, calling his framing skills "elite" and characterize his throwing arm and blocking skills as plus-plus.

At the plate, Trevino offers plus-plus power into the gaps, which should play well in Ubisoft. Otherwise, his batting skills are below average but acceptable for a catcher. Reports are that he is viewed as a natural leader by his teammates and is a hard worker.
