Keeping The Faith: Mad Pope Fans React To New GM's Signings (2063.4)

This offseason has marked a major change for the Mad Popes with new President of Baseball Operations Ben Heuring taking the reigns in Sacramento. Heuring's record in Brooklyn borders on malpractice, and in his last game in September the fan protests made it clear that he wasn't welcome. So when Mad Pope fans realized that he was going to take Shoeless's seat as the man at the controls of the reigning Pacific champions, there was some trepidation. After the Mad Popes made their two marquee moves, the Sacramento Bee reached out to Mad Popes fans to judge the new leader of the franchise.

"Heuring is someone that comes with a reputation. I work with Robins fans at Apple, and while he was able to at least get some young talent, he was never able to put together a puzzle. Yeah, he won with the Hammers way back in the day and did make the playoffs twice with the Robins, but frankly he did that with advantages. I give him 2-3 years before we end up broke and in cap hell. I hope that I can go to a parade downtown and he proves me wrong."

"Based on everything I read, Heuring is an offense first guy. His Robin teams could hit home runs, but the bottom line is that his pitching and defense frankly was a freaking disgrace. But getting Cade Miller and that shocker to get Kawano when there were no rumors was exciting. That shows that he understands that to win out here is going to require more than just playing home run derby."

"Heuring wants to prove his doubters wrong, and I loved his goal was to get a Game 7 here in Sacramento. We kept a good chunk of our guys, and the identity that Shoeless built is intact. I was worried he was going to trade Lou and our entire pitching core to Nashville for Brooks Eliot or something. He actually has been making a couple of competent moves."
