First Five Rounds of the Draft at Least One Hour

Post by aaronweiner » Sun Feb 23, 2025 11:45 am

The first five rounds of the draft are where we are guaranteed to pay our players.

If we have the appetite for speeding up the draft more precipitously than we already have - something I do not favor! - then we should have at least an hour for the first five rounds.

Therefore I propose the following compromise:

#1: Regardless of when the draft occurs, we have more than one day to set up. This was an unusual situation this year, but it should not repeat itself.
The draft was announced on 2/17 at 5:23 PM CST and was started at 7 AM CST on 2/18, which means we had less than one day to plan.

#2: A corollary to #1: We know after what sim the draft will occur and it is announced on the schedule.

#3: The first five rounds can be no less than 1 hour each, after which time the speed of rounds is at the discretion of the Governing Board or Matt Rectenwald.

Supplementary optional suggestions:

#4: If the draft must be accelerated, change the first round from four hours to three. Three hours is still a fair window given more than 24 hours to plan.

#5: Similarly, one could change the second round from two hours to 90 minutes.

I favor #1 and #2

I prefer
Round 1,four hours
Round 2,two hours
Round 3, two hours (30 minutes not enough)

I suggest
#6 Force JimBob (NO) to be an auto draft
Des Moines Kernels, 2059 to present.

I have never understood why Jim does the first round the way he does, but he usually drafts late into the draft and often does a fine job of it. If he’s taking up his clock to do it that’s his right.

Besides, I’m not sure there’s a mechanism for that.

I have nothing to say about the rest of it.

Full disclosure - I did not feel much of a stress in this draft. Maybe all three of my jobs fall into the cushy category.

I am ok with all 5 points or any combination thereof. Point #3 is my favorite though.
Valencia Stars 2059 - present
Jacksonville Hurricanes 2041-2049
Playoff Appearances 2047, 2048, 2049
Beirut Cedars 2039-2041
