Back in 2057 a trade was made that brought minor league second baseman Sumiteru Okubo into the Valencia organization in exchange for starting pitcher Fernando Villarreal who was sent to the Phoenix Talons. Fernando went on to go 3-2 with a 5.02 ERA for the remainder of 2057 before moving on to Montreal and then Austin to go 11-13 over his past four years in the BBA.
When Okubo came to the Valencia fold he had an overall potential rating of 40 which has stayed pretty steady throughout the past four seasons. His current overall rating has steadily increased from 30 back in 2059 to 40 as of this season.
After hitting .303 in single A in 2059 and .250 with 6 homers in double A during the 2060 season, Okubo his having a breakout season this year in AAA. He has found the long ball it seems as he has hit 18 homers so far this year on pace for a 30 homer season as a second baseman. His .305 average to go along with his .365 on-base percentage is putting him on pace for a WAR of 4.2.
In the field, Okubo does not hurt the club any either with an infield range of 9 and above average position ratings at both first and second base. His ratings from his last scouting report are shown below:
Will Okubo sustain his improvement long enough to work his way into the big leagues in 2062 or 2063? Only time will tell.
