The regular season has ended in the playoffs have ended in the minor leagues. Let's take a look at who our outstanding minor league hitter and pitcher of the year were for each level. I think when I get to year 10 of doing this I'll have to take a look back at all 10 and do some analysis on the players.
AAA - ANNAPOLIS SAILORS:
Best Hitter:
OF: Ramón Rodríguez I'd like to be smart and say it was a no brainer selection, but it actually wasn't Rodriguez hit .322/.381/.623/1.004 with 35 homers and 99RBI for the Sailers before being promoted to Charm City where he hit .271/.331/.534/.865 with 15 homers and 45 RBI for the Jimmies. 50 homers over the course of a season is impressive.
Best Pitcher:
John Mellon repeats the award. He posted a 13-4 record with a 3.37 ERA in 160.1 innings and got a cup of coffee with the Jimmies before tearing his UCL. He's expected to miss all of 2061.
AA - FREDERICK TRAVELERS:
Best Hitter:
CF - Jim Kerr wins the award this year. Kerr had a solid .275/.358/.374/.732 slash line with 6 homers and 32 RBI for the Travelers this year. Kerr was able to separate himself from the pack by posting a 12.1 ZR in CF this year. He'll start 2061 in AAA with an eye towards competing for a backup job in CF next year.
Best Pitcher:
António Michels, our former 2058 second rounder, takes the best pitcher Award for AA this year. He was 11-6 with a 3.25 ERA in 152.1 frames this year striking out 134. I think Michels future is in the bullpen, but we're going to give him every opportunity to prove us wrong.
A - CUMBERLAND MINERS:
Best Hitter:
2060 first rounder CF: António Huerta gets the nod. Huerta appears to be a prototypical 2020's type player posting a .225/.359/.418/.777 slash line with 11 homers and 38 RBI in 82 games after signing. He added a 15.4 ZR to give him a 3.2 WAR.
Best Pitcher:
Former 10th rounder Alonso 'David A' López takes the award this year. He posted a 3-5 record with 28 saves and a 3.25 ERA in 52.2 innings of work. We've been impressed by the progress he's shown since being drafted and feel he can be a potential reliever in the majors in the future.
SA - CAYMAN ISLANDERS:
Best Hitter:
Gene Rose takes the best hitter award. Rose posted a .299/.364/.438/.802 slash line with 8 homers and 32 RBI in 73 games. Rose is an interesting player as he has the talents to potentially be a fringe BBA major leaguer, but he's also behind in his development.
Best Pitcher:
Mario Pereira intrigues me. First off he posted a 7-2 record with a 1.90 ERA in 85.1 innings. He finished 3rd in DRAKE SL1 Outstanding Pitcher Award voting. Pereira has a high work ethic and intelligence so I'm hopeful that he can continue to have success as he climbs up the ranks in the minors.
R - ASSATEAGUE PONIES:
Best Hitter:
John 'Woody' Mellor was our 3rd round pick in 2057. He posted a .289/.348/.527/.875 slash line with 8 homers and 35 RBI in 68 games. One of the area's where we have a lot of depth is the outfield position. He's got to continue to hit and develop to stand a chance at standing out as he continues to climb up the minor league ladder.
Best Pitcher:
Víctor Pérez wins this award. He came over in a trade from Las Vegas at the deadline last season. He went 4-5 with a 3.40 ERA in 79.1 innings. I've been trying to target pitchers like Pérez when it comes to trades because we're not going to be drafting high enough to find quality pitchers. Our best chance is to find guys like Pérez who have upside and we have to develop them.
