As the BBA came to the trade deadline, the Robins were in an interesting place. While they have been a team that has been playing well since the All Star Break, the Robins found themselves 6 games back of the wild card spot. Yes, the Robins actually are still in the playoff hunt this late in the summer. It has been no secret that the Robins have needed to improve their pitching and defense to give themselves a better chance to go from less than 50 wins in 2058 to the playoffs in 2060. So what the Robins ended up doing was making a move with Rockville to acquire veteran BBA starter Bill Mills in exchange for two minor league pitchers.
Mills ended up being attractive to the Robins because he has spent his entire career in the Atlantic, which is an advantage if you like to believe that he wouldn't have to adjust much to facing different hitters. Mills also has pitched fairly well for Rockville this year, and hopefully can bring his playoff experience and veteran leadership to Brooklyn. Of the pitching options that were available, Brooklyn's management felt like he would be affordable and show that the Robins are at least trying to improve.
Some would argue that the Robins needed to bring in an outfielder or shortstop with a glove, but a deal for that type of player was unable to get done. Speaking of the move, Robins Chief Baseball Officer Ben Heuring echoed those same sentiments. "I'm happy to bring in Bill Mills, and like what he is going to bring to this team. It's been an exciting year for the Robins with this team already being 12 games better than last year, and Bill is going to play a role down the stretch as we aim to keep ourselves firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot."

Mills is going to be a pretty good piece to have. And since he’s not a rental, that means that my rotation for next year is already better.
