Charm City 2060.9 - Jimmies Announce September Promotions

The leaves are changing color, the air is cooling, and the rosters are expanding in Charm City. The Jimmies announced the promotions of two players from AAA Annapolis, C: John Payne and P: Troy Andrews. These two players joined MR: Evgeny Partyka, who was promoted in late August as an injury replacement. Let's take a look at the 3 new players joining the roster.

John Payne was our 11th round pick in 2056. Payne has slowly made his way through the system and earned his big league debut after spending his second full season with the Sailors where he posted a solid .320/.356/.443/.799 slash line with 14 homers and 64 RBI. Payne appears to have the ceiling of a backup catcher in the majors.

Troy Andrews was signed as a minor league free agent on January 31, 2060 to a contract with a $100,000 bonus. The Jimmies will be the 4th team that the 34 year old Andrews has pitched for in his career. He's spent parts of 7 seasons in the majors so far with New Orleans, Vancouver, and most recently San Bernadino in 2059. Andrews spent most of 2060 pitching out of the bullpen posting a fabulous 6-2 record with 2 saves and a 1.62 ERA over 61 innings for AAA Annapolis. He won't be pitching out of the pen as he was informed that he'll be pitching out of the rotation. Management's plan was to promote John Mellon to the active roster with him pitching as the 6th man. When Mellon went down we had to pivot to Andrews.

Finally Evgeny Partyka made his big league debut against the team that originally drafted him, the Atlantic City Gamblers on August 24th. Partyka has the stuff and movement to be a back of the bullpen pitcher, but his control is something that some in the organization feel will hold him back. Partyka handled the closer role in Annapolis this year posting 23 saves and a 2.58 ERA over 45.1 innings of work. The His control was a bit of an issue there as he also issued 33 free passes. He's essentially auditioning for a slot in the bullpen next year.

The Jimmies also announced that they have activated Slobodan Omeragic and RF: Kazunari 'Chick-Fil-A' Chikafuji while adding Félix Camarco to the active roster.

I really didn't want to promote him especially to play in the rotation, but our depth took a major hit when Mellon went down. I was leaning towards letting Davidson walk in free agency, but I'm leaning towards trying to extend him now because of the injury. Probably going to have to sign an innings eater in free agency this off season unless Andrews really surprises me.

Partyka is an intriguing pitcher. Weird reverse splits for a lefty. I kind of like him, but he messes with my mind.
