The Morning Glory 2060.01: Rocky Mountain Cyclones

On 12/3/59, the Oysters claimed two big money contracts off of waivers from the Omaha Cyclones.

One of the players was former All-Star catcher Slouth Fratelli. The last full season he played was back in 2057. He hit 26 homes runs and accumulated a 4.1 WAR that year in an All-Star season. Since then, he's played a combined 75 games over 2 season with mixed results. 2058 was a rough year in his limited action but 2059 at least saw him return to being a productive bat. He's due to make $10.7M in 2060 with a player option in 2061 for the same amount. Sources in the front office say he will catch against RHP and may DH against LHP. Tynan Potter will spell him at catcher against LHP.

The other player claimed is SP Robert Wilson. His claim was much riskier for the long term salary implications. With a career ERA of 4.28 and an even higher career FIP, he's hasn't been much more than a #4 SP since the mid 50's. He's set to make $9.6M in 2060 with an opt-out afterward. He would have to have close to a career year to even consider opting out. He's set to make $8.6M in 2061. 2062 comes with the same salary as a player option with another player option in 2063 at $7M. The organization hopes he can give mid-rotation upside.

Ideally both players have bounce back years and opt for free agency in 2061. Fratelli not opting out wouldn't be the end of the world. But any solid season probably sees him go. The organization is really hoping Wilson shoves so he heads to free agency instead of another 3 years of the player holding all the cards.
