The Surfers have arrived in Portland, Oregon today as they prepare to open the 2060 BBA Championship Season against the defending champion Portland Lumberjacks. Barry Short will be on the mound, and making his Surfer's debut will be off-season free agent signing UNEM PLOID.

Among the new faces in the clubhouse will be a pair of Rule 5 draftee outfielders, Larry Challen and Ekela Kirila. Challen is a 24 year old righty, with an excellent eye and good defense in left field. He's likely to see time in the outfield and at first base against lefties and perhaps even against some right handers.

Kirila is the surprise hold for Long Beach. He's 22 and scouts consider him underdeveloped and generally not ready for the BBA stage. However, he plays excellent defense in the outfield corners, and can play CF if necessary. The Long Beach staff was reportedly impressed with his work ethic in spring training and have decided to keep the outspoken switch hitter on the roster. Scouts anticipate above average power in his future, though he may strike out a bit too much. Starts will likely be few and far between for Kirila, but it seems that Surfer management would like him to be a significant part of the franchise in the years ahead.

Yeah, Challen should play above the 40 rating, I'd put him on a 50 I think. I wonder if there needs to be some tweaks with OOTP overall ratings after the big shift in v25. Or I just don't know what I'm doing.

weirdly slow for someone with high WE, maybe it's the low intelligence. I'll bump it up next offseason if i end up keeping him around
