It's fair to say that this year that the Robins once again have failed to take flight, and that their game on Friday night in San Antonio was likely to get lost in the shuffle. Nothing against either team or their players, it just happens sometimes. And when the Robins trailed 11-5 heading into the top of the 8th, even the diehards and the most positive Robins fans would have been ready to throw darts at a picture of the Chief Baseball Officer. But as Earl Weaver famously said, "You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all." Those that flipped off the game ended up missing a dramatic Robins comeback.
It started innocently enough when Schorr hit a sacrifice fly with one out to drive in a run. But Chao Yuan came up next and cranked out a two run shot to make it a three run game going into the 9th. Somehow the Robins bullpen held firm to give the Robins a shot. After the Outlaws cut down the tying run at the plate, the Robins looked like they would get a moral victory. Wilson Prieto decided that moral victories weren't on the cards, and knocked in the tying run. All of a sudden, the Outlaw crowd was stunned.
In extras, the Robins dropped a 5 spot headed by a Custello moon shot to give the Robins a 5 run lead, and the bullpen took it from there to secure a 16-11 lead and a win that looked unlikely 45 minutes earlier. Now, the Robins aren't going to be magically getting back in the race based off one game. But remember this game down the line when things change in Brooklyn.
