Re: While we're waiting for the logo tourney...
How did the Pirates get Mel Gibson to agree to go back in time and pose for their logo?

Re: While we're waiting for the logo tourney...
Ok, here I go...
Honorable Mention: The Padres franchise could never overuse anything featuring the drunk monk (at least, I always assumed he looked drunk).
5. I always liked Chief Wahoo (Cleveland Indians). They used him more sarcastically than the Braves franchise treated Chief Knockahoma.
4. Cincy. It just oozes nostalgia from 70s/80s, but those were my childhood days.
3. Cubs. IMHO, this is one of the greatest sports logos ever made. You just know someone was fooling around with circles, and a C is a partial circle, and the team is in Chicago, and the nickname is Cubs - and, suddenly, "Why didn't I think of this first?! It's so perfect!" Then the home uniform becomes just this logo on the chest. *chef's kiss*
2. Phillies. I hate the Phillies. I hate the Eagles. I hate the Penguins and the Union. Philly fans deserve all the worst that sports can throw at them. But that Philly "P"? I mean, damn. How can you look at that and not immediately think of the baby blues.
1. Expos. Don't know what you've got, til it's gone. I mean, look at that piece of art...I need to buy one of the retro hats with just the logo on the front.

Re: While we're waiting for the logo tourney...
Always like the Expos. I'm partial to just about all the cartoon Oriole logos. Most of the other teams in the graphic have better retro logos. I prefer the older Brewers glove logo but going back to that at all is a big win.

Re: While we're waiting for the logo tourney...
Oh man, in the parlance of my youth, when these logos were current, I just popped a boner!
My little brother decided he would be an Expos fan. He'd wear his Expos hat and satin warmup jacket to Phillies games whether they Phils were playing the Expos or not. He was like 8 at the time, so no one gave him a hard time. If he had liked a team with a lame logo, like the Red Sox, I may have pummeled him, the same way I tried to beat his love for Kiss out of him. (Hey, I know people love Kiss, but I was 2 years away from becoming a punk rocker thanks to all that bloated arena rock of the mid-'70s.)
The Expos and the Padres were cool. The Pirates and A's had those cool combos of unis. And I thought the Royals had the best of the "classy" logos and uniforms.

Re: While we're waiting for the logo tourney...
The Expos “M” is a stylized version of “CJB” for Charles J. Bronfman, the team’s first owner… or did I dream that. Anyway, I can’t unsee it…
Also, it’s kind of goofy when you think about it that two teams have pictures of socks on their logo…

Re: While we're waiting for the logo tourney...
My five worst:
5. Detroit- The tiger’s eyes are wrong; he looks more surprised than fierce.
4. Atlanta- Similarly, the Brave here just looks like someone’s tickling him.
3. Washington- Who picked out that hard-to-read typeface?
2. Pittsburgh- Missed opportunity here to do a funny cartoon guy that wouldn’t offend anyone. Instead they did a kind of realistic guy and then put a cartoony hat on him. A mess…
1. White Sox- Looks like it was created by the lowliest intern available in five minutes using the 1970s version of clip part. Come on guys… give a damn.

East Long Beach Little league uses the Expos logo. Speaking of which, local hero and former 1st round pick, Sean Burroughs died coaching his kid's Long Beach LL game a couple weeks ago. Burroughs won the LLWS for LBC back in the day.
