Ortiz was selected in the 5th round of the 2055 draft by the Jacksonville Hurricanes (now Zombies). Being part of a military family, he wasn’t surprised when he was traded to Nashville in 2058 in an attempt for Jacksonville to shed Donald Miller’s salary. Ortiz has a good fastball and an above average changeup and splitter. He throws in the mid-90’s, but if he can increase his velocity closer to triple digits, Ortiz has the potential to be a good mid-rotation pitcher. As it stands now, he is bottom of the rotation material or a good reliever conversion candidate.

Ortiz had a 77 FIP- in Single A last season once traded to Nashville and began 2059 in Double A. Thus far he has a 66 FIP- through 8 GS and has yet to allow a homerun. His biggest accomplishment this season has been a five hit shutout. Ortiz has been very consistent and could see himself in AAA by the end of the season if it wasn’t for age requirements that will likely force him to stay down a level while AAAA players fight to survive.
