Cairo Sim 6 Recap - 2059.02

Post by PixelHero » Wed May 22, 2024 10:51 pm

Jerusalem 3 - Cairo 1 - Cairo came into this game trying to sweep the series from the Hammers, but were unable to do so thanks in large part to a dominant pitching performance by Jerusalem starter Siu-chung Zhan. Zhan threw 8 innings allowing just 5 hits and 1 earned run which came in the second inning of a Reggie Leeper single. Offensively Jerusalem was able to scratch runs across in the first, seventh and eighth innings which proved enough to prevent the sweep.

Johannesburg 14 - Cairo 7 - In a high scoring affair, The Gold were able to score early and often allowing them to grab the lead and hold onto it for their 13th win of the season. Despite a back and forth affair after the first two innings which saw Cairo leading 4 to 2 Johannesburg exploded for 4 in the top of the third and never looked back. It was a rough day for both starting pitchers with Johannesburg's starter Mark 'Tugboat' Thomas lasting only 4.1 innings and Cairo's starter Enrique Serrano only able to pitch 2.2 innings. Despite the loss, Cairo fans were appreciative of the high scoring affair as through the early parts of the season, fans have become quite accustom to low scoring ballgames.

Cairo 4 - Johannesburg 3 - Despite getting out hit 7 to 6, Cairo was able to take advantage of extra inning dramatics to ultimately even the series with the Gold. The home crowd was thrilled when Enrique Rodríguez hit a run scoring double in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Pharaohs were able to use small ball successfully in the bottom of the 10th advancing the winning run into scoring position via a sacrifice bunt after a lead-off walk by So Huynh. After the extra inning affair, Cairo players expressed excitement about the possibility of winning the series in the rubber game the next day.

Johannesburg 3 - Cairo 1 - On a day when both starters went 7+ innings, the Pharaohs found themselves unable to overcome the three runs scored by the Gold in the top of the forth. Despite the fourth being the only inning of which the Gold could score, Cairo ultimately was only able to squeak one run onto the board in the 5th inning. Blair 'Breezy' Peyton was at the heart of the lone run scored as he singled, stole second-base and then advanced to third and home on two consecutive ground outs. This season Peyton's elite speed on the bases has allowed him to swipe 16 bases without being caught once.

Athens 8 - Cairo 7 - In a game just shy of 7 hours, there was no shortage of action at Piraeus Park as the Pharaohs began a series with Athens. The game went 17 innings and boy this one was exciting. Through 16 innings the two teams remained tied at 6. The top of the 17th saw Cairo break through with an RBI double from Khoi Dai. Cairo then stranded three on base but hoped to cling onto the one run lead in the bottom of the frame. Unfortunately for the Pharaohs the depleted bullpen could not hold onto the game. Harold Newbold came on and surrendered multiple wild pitches surrendering first the tying run, and then finally a walk off walk which propelled the Centaurs to victory.

Cairo 4 - Athens 3 - After the long game the day before, Cairo was hoping for a deep outing from starter Francisco Molina. Molina did his part working into the 7th and only allowing 2 runs. While Athens did manage 10 hits of Molina they were scattered and the big inning was avoided. As Cairo followers are more then familiar with, crooked innings are few and far between for the Pharaohs. Cairo was only able to score 1 in the third, fifth and finally two in the sixth which proved to be just enough to equalize the series. After the game, Athens' manager expressed frustration that his team was not able to score more runs. Despite the frustration, Athens was able to string together 12 hits including a 3 hit day for both Hanbal Sayyid and Waleed Kpodo.

Cairo is a solid veteran team and has a good shot at dethroning the Monarchs. Unless OOTP, OOTPs.
