Outfielder to Leave Team
November 7, 2058: Forever Land – Gilberto Falchonelli has informed the Krill front office that he has opted out of the final season of his contract, and plans to file for free agency. The team has a short window to offer the 38-year-old outfielder a new deal, but insiders suggest that his price tag is likely to be more than the Krill are willing to stomach.
Falchonelli is coming off a solid season that saw him play 133 games and hit 14 homers and slash .267/.314/.492. He stole 8 bases in 10 tries. His ability to slide over to center field made him particularly useful. All together, despite a trail of injuries that hampered him at times, Falchonelli contributed 2.1 WAR.
“I’m in the last seasons of my career,” Falconelli said. “I want to play fulltime.”
The loss would leave a hole in the team’s lineup against left-handed pitchers, which might well result in a change to the team’s plans in the free agent market.
“We have options,” said assistant GM Dustin Zuniga.
