The youth movement in Omaha appears to be taking over quickly. Just a week after announcing that #44 overall prospect Arturo Meza would be joining the big league club, Omaha announced that #61 overall prospect starting pitcher Sam Landry would also be joining the club immediately.
Landry, who was acquired from Nashville in January for 3B Rhys Brickell, appears as ready as ever to make an impact at the big league level. He tossed 125 innings in AA last year. So far this year, he had been hit hard with a .441 opponent BABIP, so clearly some bad luck. He had a 10.1 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 ratio in those 13 innings pitched, and that was apparently enough for Omaha to pull the trigger on bringing him up for some much-needed help.
Just like when Meza came up, It’s unknown at this time if Landry is expected to be in the rotation or provide the much-needed help in the bullpen. Rumor has it that Omaha has been tinkering with their pitching staff and potentially going to a full opener/follower/stopper type of cycle. We are expecting more news on that later today.

Hope Brickell takes him deep. Or at least walks since that’s why we brought him into Nashville.
