Sticking Points 2050.4: Who Wants to Stay in Rockville?

Post by JimSlade » Thu Apr 21, 2022 6:43 pm

No one in either camp will confirm rumors that former Rockville starting pitcher Gerald Sizemore laid down an "It's him or me" choice regarding manager Denny Dooley, but the Sizemore now resides in Valencia's rotation while Dooley remains on the top step of the Pikemen dugout.

"I was happy to run Size our there every sixth day," said Dooley, "but we've got an eye toward the long term, too."

So, it was Sizemore and backup CF Grady Eaton, a midseason waiver pickup to cover for a rash of injuries, off to Valencia for young pitching prospect Kent Johnson. "We find Johnson's command potential to be intriguing," noted GM Jim Slade.

Next up was another veteran starting pitcher on an expiring contract, John McClain, acquired from Chicago for reliever prospect Nick Clark. McClain should have known something was up when he was greeted with a locker full of fully ripe bananas. After one gem of a start and an injury to Portland starter Chris Thompson, McClain was dealt to the Lumberjacks for pitching prospect Scott Boyd.

Before Pikemen fans could get anxious, Slade and Omaha GM Justin Niles finalized weeks of under-the-radar negotiations centering around starting pitcher Mike Adams and Rockville prospect Felix Camarco. And so it goes: Adams will be starting for Rockville, with A catcher Steve Burton thrown in for good measure. The Cyclones also get reliever Yellel Obataiye in the transaction.
