Is Manama on the verge of epic collapse (& Jerusalem about to stage amazing comeback)?

Post by jjw » Sat Oct 30, 2021 10:35 pm

Manama was up by 7 over Jerusalem in the Burt wild card race with but 7 games remaining - a magic number of 1. But then the Pearls proceeded to drop five in a row (and none of them were partricularly close games) while the Hebrew Hammers won five in a row, the fifth of those coming against Manama. So the stage is set for the final two games of the regular season, with the Hammers needing to win both against the Pearls at Manama to tie them for the wild card. A Jerusalem sweep would complete a truly epic collapse by Manama, and a truly amazing comeback by the Hammers.

I need to keep congratulating division foes for beating us before the season is over.

Wouldn’t this be better as a Manama team news article rather than a general chatter piece lol?

I think the situation is unique and (most likely) won't be repeated. It's a compelling baseball turn of events and I, if I had posted a similar article, I would put it in League Chatter. I have to go undefeated when I'm barely over .500 and Manama, leading me by 7 games, has to win just 1 game. They didn't even have to beat us and we could have lost to anyone.

Well, Manama revived at the end of the day, defeating Jerusalem in both of the final two games, clinching the wild card with an 11-1 rout and then icing things with a 5-4 victory in a game that really did not matter. But the Pearls are in a very challenging situation in the playoffs against Burt division winner Beirut. A defeat of the Cedars would be a huge upset.

Yeah, might have been best as Manama news, but then: ‘epic’ is, well, epic 😂
