Bluebirds top prospect, Wafid Bishr, was called up from the international complex last week in hopes to expedite his development. The slugger got off to a hot start in his first week as a professional with the Lynchville Whiskeyjacks, hitting safely in all five games on the way to a .450/.522/1.000 line including 2 HR and 3 BB. Bishr was so highly anticipated that he was selected to the All-Star Futures Game before playing a single inning in the minors. While scouts believe Bishr possesses the hitting skills necessary to thrive at the BBA level, they are still searching for a position that the young man will find comfortable, while not being too detrimental to the team.

Bishr is currently plugged in at 2B, but will likely see time at 1B since his arm doesn’t seem to have healed correctly following a cleaver accident when he was 15 years old. Lebanese surgeons attempted to reattach a ligament in his right arm, but extensive nerve damage has left the ex-goat farmer with limited range of motion in his elbow. That didn’t stop Nashville scouts from offering $5 million to sign with the team just a year later. Bishr was put on an immediate bulk program that helped his weight increase from 159 pounds to 168 pounds of pure muscle. While it may still be a few years until Bishr is in a Nashville lineup, the future looks promising for the Lebanese national.
