“Slap in the face” for Hayashi & Beltran as both are shipped back to AAA.(45.13)

Someone contacts the players' association. For the second time this season, Norio Hayashi and Roberto Beltran have both been optioned to AAA, this time just before all-star weekend.

Before we get into Hayashi, let’s just point out that it isn’t unreasonable for Beltran to be sent down. Whether it’s for service time manipulation or not, Beltran has struggled this season at the plate after putting together a solid 2044 campaign. This season Beltran has just a .236/.289/.341 triple slash, good for a 64 wRC+ and a -0.1 WAR through 258 BBA at bats.

Hayashi on the other hand is a crime.

The 27-year-old starting pitcher finds himself in AAA for the second time this season. For far in the 2045 campaign, Hayashi has a 2.51 ERA, good for 3rd in the Frick. His 12 wins tie him for 1st place, and his 5 complete games are second in the Frick to only teammate Timo Dooley.

There is one clear reason for Omaha to be making this move. With 4 years and 89 days of major league service time, Hayashi is just about 10 days off of the team gaining another season of team control without having to agree to terms on a long term deal. If Hayashi remains in AAA for the next week, he will be under Cyclone control through the 2047 season when he will be 29 years old.

While Hayashi doesn’t have any all-star incentives in his contract, it is worth questioning to the league office whether Hayashi could/should still be selected to the BBA all-star game despite his status as a AAA ball player for the week.

Omaha should be ashamed of themselves.

The only justice is a random OOTP game news for Hayashi to commit hara-kiri as a result of the dishonor of this demotion.

Keep him away from all samurai swords.

Interesting strategy. Lets hope the decision doesn’t come back to bite you in the rear. I applaud your intestinal fortitude sir!

Wait, so if I sent Theo Bourges (4 years, 93 days of major service) down for ~2 sims, I could gain an extra year of team control?

I would say I look forward to you missing the playoffs by 1 game because of this, but it looks more likely that you'll lose the division by 1 game and get bumped out of the playoffs in the first round. serves you right...lol
