Despite the lack of responsible leadership within the Sacramento organization's upper offices, a video surfaced on Reddit recently of three Mad Pope ballplayers picking up trash along the Little Calumet River during an off-day last season in Chicago. Dani Garcia, Thomas Kramer, and Henri Charriere were spotted wading through stench-filled waters collecting garbage into large black plastic bags.
"When you get to play your home games in the most beautiful city in the Brewster, it's difficult going on the road and seeing such filth," said Kramer. "What a shame, too. I'm sure this river and the area around Chicago's stadium were gorgeous at one time, but, when you have selfishness and greed like they do with that Vinnie Vitalle, all manner of ugliness takes over. We just wanted to do something about it."
The group collected 46 bags of garbage during their day long clean-up effort. Despite the amount of bags filled, only a small section of one side of the river was cleaned.
"I think the hardest thing to fathom was all the stadium trash in the river," said Charriere. "We found so many plastic beer cups and hot dog wrappers with the writing, 'Go, Sox, Go' written on them. We're not idiots. We know the Sox are just dumping their garbage from their games in this river."
The video was sent to the Environmental Protection Agency in an effort to stop the Black Sox organization from continued illegal dumping, but recently appointed EPA chief, Wallace Vitalle, cousin of Sox owner Vinnie Vitalle, will likely halt any investigation attempts.
"Slither, slither," sang Exalted Mystic, Ralph Dewaldo. "Two-forked tongue in talons."
