Buzz Growing For "Second Debut"
August 15, 2043: Indianapolis – Last week, Dave Lee threw a full-blown no hitter, finishing only a walk and a hit batsman from a perfect game. The team was a happy, of course, though peeved at the pitch count, which went over 100 for the first time all year.
Concerned, the team put a 50 pitch count limit on the lefty prospect for his next outing as well as extracted a public apology from Indianapolis manager Ulf Janz.
"I got caught up in the moment," Janz said. "The whole team was behind Dave, and I should have known better than risk his career for a minor league no-hitter." Then he smiled and said "It was a great night, though, wasn't it?
Lee, too, responded. Of course, he did. And in the way that a player really ought to respond.
That next outing?
- 5 IP
- 5 Strikeouts
- 0 walks
- 0 hits
- 50 pitches
- 15 Batters faced
"I'm feeling pretty good," Lee said dryly after being removed. "I wouldn't have minded pitching another inning, but I'm sure glad my arm hasn't fallen off."
Sarcasm aside, Lee's performance has fans in an uproar.
"We want Lee," said Kevin Freedman, member of the rabid fan club Bleed Nine Red. "We want him now. If we don't get him, we're going to have to wonder how serious this front office is about winning."
