Things are certainly starting to heat up in Kuwait City as we enter summer. The Alhafr are carrying an 8 game winning streak and victors of 12 of their last 13. Jack Moniker was tasked with coming up from AAA to replace the injured slugger, Knud Braams. With a couple lineup adjustments, Moniker found himself batting leadoff from the get go and he did not disappoint. Getting on base for the lethal Alhafr lineup is key and Moniker begins his UMEBA career with a .385 OBP while getting a hit in each of his first 6 games. Alhafr SS Rúbem Bordonhos also enjoyed a great week with 12 hits in his last 24 at-bats during his own 6 game hitting streak. The bullpen was well-rested as starters went deep into the game, which prevented more bullpen woes. César Sánchez did manage to blow a save opportunity against César Sánchez, but Kuwait City still managed to pull out the victory. Completing the sweep of Istanbul next game would be a huge accomplishment.
“We’re climbing the standings and only half a game out of first. We’ve been right on Istanbul’s heels all season, so it’s great for the team to come together and get these big W’s,” said infielder Dan Jackson.
The recent surge has seen Kuwait City on top of the power rankings for the first time in their history. GM Chad Nason has also strengthened the farm system with the second highest rated farm in UMEBA. The recent winning streak paired with promising future has fans excited for the first time.
Known for starting the ‘Can youuuuu dig itttttt’ chants at home games, Alhafr superfan, Faisal Ali, was among those excited for the club.
“I’ve been supporting this team since day one. It was such a moment when we heard Kuwait City was being awarded an expansion club. Our fandom is second to none and we’ve paid some dear sacrifices, but now is our time to shine. We will continue to seek glory and win many championships,” said Ali.

The true test for Kuwait City will come this week, as they finish their 3 game set with Istanbul, followed by visits from feisty Baghdad Kings and pesty Manama Pearls. The top of the leaderboard could easily see many changes after the next week of games. Hopefully the Alhafr can carry this momentum and win these crucial games and secure first place in the BURT.
