Older sports fans around the Jersey area will probably remember the Devils name. It was the name of the NHL hockey team that was located in Jersey before the Covid-19 pandemic that shut down all sports across the United States. The NHL attempted a comeback for the 2020-2021 season before a 2nd mutated version of the virus spread across the United States and shut everything down for even longer. The NHL was never able to recover financially and officially went defunct March 1st 2022.
Numerous polls over the years have shown Jersey sports fans haven't really cared much for the name. Most seemed to think it sounded more like a swim team or even a sailing team. Not exactly a baseball team and not a fear inducing one at that. As one twitter user put it "The only rat that ever scared anyone was Splinter, maybe they should rename the team after him."
What is a New Jersey Devil you may ask?

In Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia folklore, the Jersey Devil is a legendary creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of South Jersey. The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many variations. The Jersey Devil fits in well with the Blazers mascot Nitro the Dragon.
