As league predicts a sweep, so Does Omaha GM Justin Niles in exclusive interview.(42.29)
According to the recent Doubleday polls, there is exactly a count of 1 General Managers who thinks that Omaha is going to defeat Louisville and move one step closer to the Landis Championship Series. Of course, that one GM is the GM for Omaha. We sat down with GM Justin Niles to discuss his feelings towards this series. Below is a short recap of our interview. Be aware, some explicit language may offend some.
Reporter: First of all, congratulations on the victory against the River Monsters.
Niles: Don’t patronize me with that load of shit. You were one of the reporters that said Twin Cities was going to roll us up and smoke us!
Reporter: I will admit I had the River Monsters defeating your Hawks but I was wrong.
Niles: Your damn right you were wrong, and let me tell you something. I have seen the polls, I know that nobody believes in us. But they are just as wrong as you are. We are going to go into the series against Louisville and we are going to prove who we are.
Reporter: And just who are the Omaha Hawks?
Niles: What kind of a dumbass question is that? We aren’t some “underdog” or “America’s team”. Some think we don’t deserve to be here because we won 60 games the year before this season and aren’t ready for this. Some see a downward spiral because our players are old and aging. Please. Forget them. We have a wonderful duo of youngsters on our BBA roster in the outfield in Ordonez and Ly. People forget how young they are. We have a solid group of veterans in the infield which is likely going to have a youngster join next season in Wilson Estrada. Our pitching staff isn’t old either. We’re young damnit. We aren’t going anywhere.
Reporter: Thanks for that in-depth answer on a question that was such a dumbass question(air quotes).
Niles: And let me tell you one more thing about Louisville. I’m not just saying this because I am in the seat I am in. I am saying this because it’s going to happen. We are only going to have a 4 game series, that part the voters have right. The part that’s wrong is the team that will be walking out with their heads held high. We play the first 2 in Louisville, and then 3 games in Omaha. Our fans game 4 is going to be thrilled to see such a wonderful showing at home. Game 5 fans are going to be upset because there won’t be a game. Sure it hurts revenue, but I just want to put out there that for those who have game 5 tickets, when that game doesn’t happen, we’re going to welcome you back for the next series where Omaha will face either California or Yellow Springs with the winner heading to the Landis Series. Your tickets will be exchangeable.
Reporter: Wow, what an offer that is and what a big prediction.
Niles: Not really a big prediction. My eyes are open. The rest of the league is amazed by a player who’s got a name I can’t even pronounce in their outfield. We’re the team to beat in this series. We’re done here.

Head to head between the two this season stands at 7-7. Methinks the brooms will be left at home.

Omaha is under rated probably due to that 63 win season ahead of it.
