New Poll for 4 sims a week

Post by recte44 » Sat Apr 18, 2020 12:28 pm

I have adjusted the times of a proposed 4 sims per week schedule for the 2042 season, as follows:

TUE 7pm, THU 7am, FRI 7pm, SUN 7pm

This leaves equal time between sims for everyone and should serve as a good compromise.

75% needed to pass. Voting ends Sunday

Not worth even trying to argue, you all know my views. But you’ll keep on doing polls until you finally coerce enough to vote yes.

Don’t know why you don’t just say fuck you that don’t agree with me, we’re doing it anyway. Why not make it a seven sim week and cut out any pretence of a writing league

Believe it or not nigel, people are allowed to feel differently on issues than you and have their own opinions. This is not going to be a permanent thing (the initial post specifies it is only for the 2042 season and it is not like we are adding a tremendous number of sims.

Frankly you are coming across as an immature child and not exactly helping your case with those who are indifferent.

I’ve changed my opinion in this over the month.

I was a solid no to start. But the fact I have a ton of time right now makes me want for another sim a week.

When things go back to normal I’m sure I’ll go back to a hard no. But for now, I’m a yes.

I cant speak for recte, but I would be surprised if this goes past the 2042 season without at least another poll of the population taken.

EDIT I was a no initially as well

3 questions please.

1) Why is the vote being rushed? Personally I think this is a big thing so it should be opened longer than a few hours imo.

2) Why is no time specified? Will the vote close at 1 second past midnight Sunday or will it close 1 second to midnight Sunday.

3) Will this be the final say if the vote is 'no' or will there be another vote in the weeks to come. I mean nobody knows if this is short term or long term, our government are saying things will not return to normal until a vaccine as been found that could be next year.

I think we should give it a go. Worst that happens is that we find it a little too hard to keep up with and revert back to 3 sims before corona goes away.

1. The poll is officially open indefinitely, my guess is recte wants it by end of sunday so he can plan for sims next week. We also already have 19/40 official GMs voting so my guess is we will have 32+ by this time tomorrow.

2. I assume end of sunday

3. This sounds like it will cover 2042, and if this virus situation has not changed there will be more polls taken and the situation re-evaluated.

Have we lost GMs due to 3 sims?

Not everyone as time to burn, will GMs quit because an extra sim is too much. I'll not divulge a confidence but a GM said to me they dont want to be constantly in the game

GMs quit all the time. We have a full UMEBA to replace them. The BBA has been around a real long time and will surely survive an extra sim a week on a temporary basis.

The arguments against four sims seem poor to me. No one is suggesting we shouldn't write as much and even if there's less overall time to write, most people in the league will have more time since they're spending it at home anyways. They can use that additional time to write more too. I haven't seen anything suggesting that writing activity is actually going to suffer due to an additional sim in this environment when most of the league is at home right now. In fact, this would be a fantastic time to try a fourth sim out and see what kind of activity we have.

I'm really glad this poll was posted again because I didn't get to have a voice in the last vote since I was in the midst of a move. I strongly support a trial period for 4 sims a week. If people just don't have the time right now, that would make more sense to me than the argument that this is a writing league. A lot of people were tongue in cheek with it yesterday, including me, but having one less sim didn't actually create more article. People are going to write when they want to write.

Other people have said it, but I encourage anyone against this to try to remember that this would just be temporary. I would absolutely be on your side if this were permanent. I think three sims under normal circumstances is a much better pace, but I think activity is solid enough to where we can move to four sims pretty easily right now.

This is called catastrophizing. If GMs leave because of a move to 4 sims they probably weren't going to be around for long anyways since there's no heavy penalty for missing a sim. Unless that person is missing multiple sims. If they do that then they couldn't handle a three sim structure anyways.

It's called reality, I'll stick around I've put too much into the Centaurs but if I'd looked at the Brewster ad on the OOTP boards and read 4 sims, I wouldn't have read past 4 sims let alone filled an application in or joined. So no it's not "catastrophizing" its reality.

This is the normal cycle of leagues. The UMEBA is not "expendable" there are always people who are looking to join leagues.

What's the downside? There isn't enough time to write? If that were the case I would have seen more output yesterday from the vast minority who cited writing as the reason for their opposition of an extra sim.

Listen, at the end of the day the extra sim is supposed to be a GOOD thing for the members of the league. As far as I can tell, there are 37 out of 40 active members who are chomping at the bit for something to keep us going during this quarantine.

As for people quitting, we don't want that in any circumstance. I can't put myself in a frame of mind to comprehend why this would drive someone to quitting the league. We sim MORE than four days a week in the offseason where there's actually more to do. I don't understand the issue, unless of course you are setting aside an entire DAY to write articles.

As commissioner I am trying to see both sides here, and be understanding of both sides. I also know that as Commissioner I have to go with the wishes of the majority. In this case I consider this a MAJOR VOTE so 75% will be needed.

To follow up on the other questions:
1) This is the last vote. If it passes, we do it. If it doesn't, we don't.
2) The reason for a Sunday deadline for the vote is so I can adjust the schedule to whichever direction we choose. Do we need more than 29 hours to cast a simple yes/no vote?
3) As for the duration of this, please be clear: this is ONLY through the 2042 season. If quarantines subside earlier, we will certainly go back to our traditional three sims a week schedule at that time.
