Personally, I consider myself to be very active, but not on the boards. I come to the boards regularly, do the Hall of Fame, do research fairly frequently to support or argue other people's ideas, and keep up with my team as best as I can. What I don't do a lot of is writing features. I try to when time is available, but that is few and far between.

As it is, I would be sad to see the league go, but I don't believe for a second that a quiet league is a dead league. It more often just means it is filled with adults who have limited time to devote.

By the way, I hate missing exports and have no idea how I missed the last one. I distinctly remember exporting, because I was so pissed off that I had missed the previous one somehow.

Well, I have been around since the 1995 season, but I am assuming I am one of the "auto pilot" GMs you speak of. I think there are just different strokes for different folks. I certainly have every intention of participating in forums and discussions (like this one), and meeting my PP requirements, but the "writing" aspect is not the part of MBBA that I enjoy. I understand that participation is required in this league, and I signed up for that, so I dont whine about it much (other than when opportunities like this come up). but I wouldn't mis-construe my lack of team news articles as not being involved.

I spend alot of time each week pouring over my roster, making roster moves, proposing trade scenarios, scouring the FA and WW, analyzing the HOF ballot, ASG Ballot, Draft Board, etc. I dont just put in 2 minutes a sim and hit export.

Frankly I rarely read articles others write, which maybe makes me not want to spend alot of time writing articles about my team. I write articles because i have to, not because I want to, which is a bad state of affairs. Raise the PP and I will write more...but raise it too much where it causes me to lose enjoyment in my "get-away-from-the-world" time, I'll be gone. I guess thats okay if its what you want long-term...but you might lose some dedicated owners like myself who do care alot about the MBWBA.

Beyond that, I agree with some previous posters that the lack of talent in the minor leagues is very poor. It makes it tough to part with some good talent in your farm system to get a "rental" player, and likewise makes it hard to aquire good young talent. Maybe its the ebb and flow of the league, but whenthis guy is the #41 prospect in the GAME, there is a talent gap.

I think the talent gap for Pitching is even more severe. I know we are not mirrored after the MLB, but check this out. The 2011 MLB ERA sorted by team. The WORST team in the league, Baltimore had a team ERA of 4.89. To take a middle-of-the pack MBWBA team, Say Omaha, Who is 8th in the JL in ERA, has an era of 4.66. If they were in the MLB, they would be the 2nd Worst team! I think this is also a big part of the reason owners are reluctant to vote in Pitchers to the HOF. The numbers for the best pitchers in MBWBA would not even be pedestrian in the MLB.

As for increasing participation, unfortunately this is going to take more effort from the commish, but live sims would help. I know Bornac has done this in other leagues in the past, and it gets some conversation going in a chat room, and i think that is a good thing.

Maybe we just need to bond more...Maybe we should set up a real-world Fantasy Football League, or a real-world MLB Fantasy League. Heck, we could even make it a dynasty league which stays with your franchise here. I dont know...maybe some of that kind of stuff would help bring us together more.

So again, dont mis-construe this. I love the MBWBA, and I intend on being here for years...just given the opportunity to talk about some things, I figured it would be a good time to bring these up.

Like, and I am not kidding, let me name my own team stadium what I want it to be named. Who is in charge of the stadium? The team or the commish?

So, yeah, I hate Hormel Field. I joked about Dole Diamond. But I refuse to call it (in my articles) Hormel Field.

It is Tropics Stadium.

I am not talking about rebranding or rebuilding walls or moving the franchise or getting new uniforms. Just the name of where we play.



But the first sentence of this post still stands. Surely other newbies would have some input on this.

I like TimB's idea of the GM interviews.

The restrictions and costs of naming changes have come about after years of running this (in my opinion). The ability to move was MUCH more liberal, but folks would move their team to PeeCity, Utah and then leave after the season. No continuity. Same thing with stadiums, etc.

There is no mention of a simple stadium rename in the constitution. So I am not asking for anything big, such as the things I listed, which are in the constitution. And I not asking for some weird name for our beautiful stadium. Just a better name than Hormel Field. You could also consider it part of a health kick (Hormel manufactures canned spam).

BUT I made a simple request that is not covered by the constitution and that shouldn't cause any controversy and shouldn't require a league vote, just the discretion of the commissioner.

It is a permanent stadium name change.

Does it really matter to anyone else what our stadium is named? Do you really care whether it is named Hormel Field or Tropics Stadium?

No, I didn't think so. But Matt just has to use his commissioner's powers to edit my ballpark's name.

I mean, this seems a great way for GMs to get to know one another, which I think would make the league more cohesive and stronger. There is definitely be a gap between folks who have known each other for years, or at least multiple seasons, and us newbies.

I was reading in the past about an idea for an MBBA PODCAST. Now that would blow the top off most other leagues. Let's work toward some of these more creative ideas. That's one reason I highlighted that post that contained the Carolina video. That rocked!

If we want great GMs, we need a great league.

And FWIW, I also have chosen to be in the MBwBA only, because I didn't want to divide time and concentration and effort to more than one league.

I'm pretty new, but I am semi-auto pilot because as an EBA manager, there simply isn't much to do. Most of the managers are computer run, so I can't trade. The current draft pool was total crap (like 1 or 2 players I even wanted in my system in the whole draft), and my salary is capped so I can't sign anyone. Basically, there isn't a ton of stuff I can even do.

If I were in the MBWBA I'd be more active because I could actually participate, so I'd be happy to take one of those teams. Otherwise I am stuck in a dead league for now.

Yeah, I think there will have to be some changes with the EBA, which I love in concept but in reality isn't working as we had hoped.

I apologize for not participating enough in the forums. Initially, I had plenty of time writing articles and in face, I created my own team website. I really enjoy writing, but life is keeping me from writing for MBBWA. Instead, I do tweets when something important occur in my franchise. In addition, I think I only missed 1 export this year and I have a valid reason for that.

Since we have some open teams in the MBBA it may be time to wrap the EBA folks in and run the EBA on auto-pilot for now. I wouldn't remove it, but let's see if we can get a backlog of potential owners in and then add them in to the EBA to run things. I can imagine it's hard to run a team when there aren't owners to trade with , etc.

I do follow the EBA though since we could see some EBAers coming over via FA and they may be bargain pickups.

Well, I know I am one of those at fault, not getting much writting in.

I really hope that will change soon as I have been socking away money for a laptop and am just waiting on the "Black Friday" or "Cyber Monday" deals to hit.

I use to have a lot of time in the evening but over the last month and a half my 2 year old son has become a night owl. He use to be in bed by 9pm which gave me time to spend on the computer in the evening. Now he is staying up till 11 at night (not what I want) and he has to watch Thomas the Train videos (according to his mom).

Once I get my laptop I will have access at work when I'm on breaks as well as the ability to use it at home when my son is on the desktop.

I really like this league but I do feel overwhelmed at times as my knowledge is nowhere near the level of most of you. I am trying to pick up the pace and I do appreciate this league and the work that must go into running it.

I assumed the reason that offense is high right now is because historical accuracy is on and we're mirroring 2002 in real life which was a big offensive era. Or it could just be we happen to be in an offensive era that coincides with what it was in 2002 in real life. 2011 was a major pitchers year in MLB so you have to take that into account when making comparisons.

Concerning the talent gap, the salary cap was preventing me from making trades. I would have tried to add a starter if I could add the salary. So that affects the rebuilding teams negatively. I would have been in on Rebhan, for example, which would have helped Louisville get another suitor and possibly a better prospect package.

But, I inherited this team and I didn't have much control over planning my salary structure. So a GM could plan on leaving some salary flexibility under the cap for deadline deals. 100 million is more than enough if we operate efficiently. I prefer the cap because it's more challenging. It's too easy if you can add mountains of salary.

The weak draft pools are necessary to compensate for the talent bloat. It sucks and everyone hates a weak draft pool but a strong draft pool every season would fill up the league with an absurd amount of talent.

Plus, the talent level of the league will eventually level off. Then, those players who are 6/5/7/5/4 will actually become major league contributors as they should.

We have player stories form the GBC that we still laugh about. Terry Fransciscian, Leo Beall, a couple others. Name mean nothing probably to most of you since they were around back when we were doing this in '98 but the stories were prolific.

I was once married to Britney Spears in the GBC... AHHH, the good ol' days. haha

On a side note, Aaron, do you need help with the PP count? I did the count for about 5-10 seasons in the ORB2 and always had the time to get 3-4 counts in per season. I'll gladly take on that undertaking again if need be.

I think having the PP count updated periodically helps everyone see who is and who isn't involved and it also helps push and encourage those who aren't up to par to try and get them to that point.
