After weeks of speculation, with members of the local and national baseball world in attendance, the Boise Spuds unveiled new team logos, home and road uniforms and official team hat that will go into effect starting in 2042."We appreciate everyone coming today," team owner Francis Nephi Grigg IV said into the microphone. Gregg, with members of the Boise coaching staff, front office and marketing department seated behind him, was beaming from the elevated stage. "This past season was magical, a year of firsts. The club has transformed in just seven years since we became an expansion team and the Spuds are entering a new era!"
There was a round of applause from the audience that featured members of the Boise community and several dozen lucky season ticket holders.
"I am excited, as everyone else is, to first announce that we will have new branding, starting with a new logo," Griggs said as an intern pulled down an orange sheet from an easel, unveiling the club's new logo, a smiling potato in a 'B' baseball cap, giving a thumbs up.
The crowd ooh'd and aah'd with delight, following by claps and cheers.
"But that's not all. We've designed some additional workmarks and logos branding you will also see all over the stadium, on tickets and programs, social media...anything Spuds baseball, you'll see this new look!"
"Now, here starts the really, really fun part. With a new logo, of course comes a new hat, right?"
The crowd erupted with anticipation. With a grin from ear-to-ear, Grigg reached behind the podium and pulled out a blue and orange cap, emblazoned with an off-white B, matching the same hat on the new anthropomorphic potato logo. All the members of the organization behind Grigg followed suit, each pulling hats from a bag below their folding chairs and put them on their heads. Whistles and claps of approval from the audience made Grigg's smile even wider.
"This is some great stuff, right? Okay, now this is probably what you're all waiting for. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the new uniforms for YOUR Boise Spuds!"
From behind the stage walked out two models, each with a different full uniform. One featured an off-white jersey and pants with blue pinstripes, blue and orange piping down the center of the jersey and the word 'SPUDS' in a blue vintage font. The other wore a grey jersey and pants with orange piping and the word 'Boise' in a traditional script with a tail extending from the last letter to underline the entire word.
The crowd went nuts as photographers, both traditional and with iPhones, snapped pictures of the two new looks.
"I sounds like you guys like 'em?! I know we do! As I said before, this is a new era of Boise Spuds baseball. I'll be investing more money into this team, we have this new look and you already know we have the talent on the field. This promises to be an exciting time to be a fan of the Spuds. Thank you all for joining!"
The new-look Spuds will have updated uniforms, hat and branding for the first time since their expansion season in 2035. The previous team colors were brown and Carolina blue and by the looks of things, those will be updated to orange, navy blue and off-white. The new official Spuds merchandise is now available on the team's online store and in team store located at Grigg Memorial Stadium.
