2041.6: Confidence Restored

Post by lordtoffee » Sat Feb 01, 2020 12:05 am

Considering all that has gone wrong in the first half, the Hebrew Hammers are very much alive in the wild card hunt. They sit at 39-43, which is one game out of the Bancroft wild card spot. Even more interesting is that the Pythagorean record difference is -3, meaning that the Hammers have slightly underachieved relative to their run totals on both ends. Despite this ownership is riding rookie GM and former CEO of Shoreview Area Baseball Ben Heuring hard, and for no apparent reason.

It turns out that one of ownership's goals for the GM was to be in the playoffs, and he is mad that the team is under .500. Well, that's near the playoffs. In this day in age, you have the ability to find the UMEBA standings anywhere, so it is unrealistic to be mad when a team is literally in playoff contention at the break. Heuring has been struggling with luck, a pitching staff that gives runs up in bunches, and a league that is rapidly closing the talent gap, and ownership is ignoring the reality that the dynasty might not be over just yet? It's like Heuring can't win, or even come close. Baseball is a long season, and the Hammers have gotten back into contention, and have a good chance of getting to the playoffs. It's like ownership seems to be missing the entire boat this year, and Heuring will take the fall.

One of the key players in the marked improvement of the Hammers lately is a young shortstop named Dan Jackson. The 21 year old American has been dynamite on defense and is a plus runner. He is the type of player that can handle playing short, and has recently shown some promise with the bat The rookie GM has been trying to fix the position and Jackson has taken the opportunity and ran with it. It's honestly impressive, and may save the team from having to look at swinging a trade for a shortstop.

Pitching on the other hand has been a bit dicey. The closer by committee has been struggling, and the plan is to give it time before changes are going to be made. Let it be noted that Jerusalem is looking for relievers and starters, and am willing to trade in order to get what they need.
