The Mumbaikar Vol 2 Ep 2- Reason For Optimism

Post by FuzzyRawley » Sat Jan 04, 2020 2:52 pm

12 games into the season finds Mumbai in a share for first place of the Bancroft League. This positive development is being led by solid outings by both the bullpen and the starting rotation who, combined, have posted a 3.92 ERA thus far.

Newly acquired Pepe Castillo is leading the rotation with a solid 1.88 ERA. However, Castillo seems to be benefiting a lot from his fielders because his associated FIP is higher at 3.09 (still a solid number on its own).

Tim Oliver, the other lefty in the opening day rotation, has been sent to the 'pen due to his less than stellar start which sees him shouldering a 11.25 ERA. To be fair to him, it seems like he's been victimized by poor defence since his FIP sits at 5.31. Given Mumbai is in need of lefty help in the bullpen, this move made sense until more lefty relievers can be brought in.

Offensively, the Metro Stars are leading the Bancroft with an OPS of .766. The lineup is being led by 1B Juan Parra and RF Robert Gowron. These two salty veterans have hit 9 homeruns and driven in 19 between the two of them. Obviously, management is praying age doesn't rear its ugly head and send one, or both, of these players to the IL.

Down on the farm, top prospects, Baden Goulding and Ivan Lovett seem to be benefiting from the addition of the AA level Sao Paulo Bandeirates. Both players are showing promising signs that they will develop into solid UMEBA'rs.
 They say it don't be like it is, but it do!

Pepe can sure get around (6th team in 5 seasons)...hopefully his time in the UMEBA treats him well.

Oliver was one of my early FA signings as GM in Mumbai. As Ron says, good to see him hanging in there!
