2040.07 - Playoff bound? Part 4.1

Post by drummerJ99 » Sun Dec 01, 2019 10:26 am

It's all coming down to the final week of the season for the Istanbul Bosphorus. They need almost a perfect week of baseball and some luck to make their first playoff appearance. With just 4 games remaining after this sim, do they have any luck left on their side?

Bosphorus Subdue Manama, 5-4
Istanbul played host to Manama at the friendly confines of Istanbul Grounds.

The Istanbul Bosphorus topped the Manama Pearls by the score of 5-4, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Hyung-on Ch'oe. Ch'oe was 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Bosphorus. Bras Gesteiras notched his 34th save in 41 chances.

Ch'oe came through with some timely hitting for Istanbul. With the score 0-0 in the bottom of the third and one down, Ch'oe hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring triple. His 2nd triple of the season made it 1-0, Istanbul.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Ch'oe said.

Their 68-88 record puts the Bosphorus third in the Burt League.

Bosphorus Lose, 5-3, at Ballpark of Baghdad
The Baghdad Kings stopped the Istanbul Bosphorus, 5-3, at Ballpark of Baghdad. The Kings got a big game from Jack Hankey, who went 2-3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Henry Waddell earned his 13th save in 19 chances. Baghdad has now won 3 in a row.

Hankey contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Baghdad in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Hankey took a slider from Francisco Cardona and stroked the home run to right. His 7th home run of the season allowed the Kings to leap in front, 4-3.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Hankey. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

Bosphorus Throttle Kings, 5-1
Istanbul rode a fine outing from starter Francis Wiles to victory over the Baghdad Kings at Ballpark of Baghdad. The final score was 5-1. Bras Gesteiras converted his 35th save in 42 tries. The Bosphorus now have a mark of 69-89.

Istanbul used the timely hitting of Alonso Alba to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bosphorus on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Istanbul sits 4 games behind Cairo Chariot Archers BC with only 4 games remaining. And the final 3 of the season is against the previous mentioned Cairo Chariot Archers BC.

It's all gonna come down to the final series of the season. Can Istanbul make their first playoff appearance? Or will Cairo make their 4th straight apperance?

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Wiles told the Istanbul Chronicle.
