2040.04 - The Long Beach Independent - One Win And In

MAGIC NO. FOR WC AT ONE

September 29, 2040
Long Beach, CA

The Surfers have stumbled to the finish line of the 2040 championship season, going 12-13 in the month of September. Luckily for them, their FLP competition for the Wild Card has also stumbled. San Fernando (12-13) and Valencia (11-15) have also had poor months, allowing California (16-10) to run away with the division.

Long Beach's three remaining games are at home against the aforementioned Valencia Stars. If the Surfers win just one of the final three games, they are guaranteed the final wild card spot in the Frick League. If they are swept, then they will be forced to win at least one tiebreaker to advance to the Geoghegan Round of the playoffs. If San Fernando also wins out, there will be a three way tie for the third wild card spot.

More than likely though, the Surfers will win one game, and eliminate the Stars. They're currently one game behind the Omaha Hawks for the #2 wild card position, and would gain home field advantage for the first round by moving ahead of the Hawks. On the season, LBC is 9-2 against Valencia.

The pitching assignments for the final three games are Feliciano Rafael, Cris Rios, and a TBD for game 162, likely depending on how the first two games go.
