I'm 40 and got my ass handed to me by a guy in his 60s a few weeks ago. Granted, that guy used to be on the tour. Also granted, that was in the late 70s and early 80s.

It was also a USGA 4-ball qualifier in which his partner was only worth about $35 million and a member at Augusta, Pine Valley, and Valhalla. Also granted, he was in his 60s. And granted, he beat my ass too.

Alan Fadel was his name. Supposedly spent a few years on tour and got his amateur status back later in the 80s.

His partner was David Novak. One of the creators of the Yum! Company.

I’m scared to ask, but which one have you played? Best I’ve played is Kiawah Ocean Course. Played it about 3 years before they hosted the PGA that Rory won.

That's a heck of a tandem! I miss playing in USGA and SCGA (Southern California) events.

I was lucky enough to be invited for weekend at Pine Valley...36 holes on Saturday, 18 holes on Sunday and a lot of Transfusion cocktails in between. A dream come true!

never actually played it, but I grew up a mile from the Chicago Golf Club (one of the original USGA founding members) and ran by it every day for cross country practice. That was the one place in town we didnt actually hop a fence and run, because they dont play around there. Always thought it would be cool to play but I will never get the chance lol.

And based on that score I’m not the best golfer in the BBA. Shit!

Hovering around a 5 handicap right now. Was down to a 4 before the USGa qualifier. (Had to have a 4.3 to even be able to register)

hahah I still recall when I played Kiawah about 14 years ago. I insisted to play the tips. Told myself if I ever played a PGA caliber course I was playing it like the pros. I went par-par to start and told myself this was easy. Finished by shooting a 96.

Knew I was a sucky old amateur when I got to hole 17 and had to hit a driver.... it was a par 3 over water!
