Sox Scoops 40.119: "Memo: New Park's Effects Revisited"

Re: Home Park Effects

With just more than half a season in the books, I thought I would revisit the effect Black Sox Park is having on our hitting and pitching. Again, this is just half a season, so the sample size is still limited - but it's larger than the one in our May review.

And the results - especially for pitching - are telling. The hitting, as you'll see, has evened out. In fact, the Sox hit slightly better at home than on the road.

But our pitchers ... well, see for yourself.

Here are a few tables that break things down:

Chicago Team Batting
As of the morning of July 14, 2040
SplitAvg.OBPSlugOPS
Overall.245.316.417.732
Home.247.321.427.748
Road.242.309.404.713
Chicago Team Pitching
As of the morning of July 14, 2040
SplitERABABIPAvg. AllowedOBP AllowedSlug AllowedOPS Allowed
Overall3.87.272.239.302.399.696
Home3.45.269.228.292.362.653
Road4.44.276.253.315.436.751
Chicago Run Differential
As of the morning of July 14, 2040
SplitRuns ScoredRuns AllowedRun Differential
Overall390385+5
Home212206+6
Road178179-1
That home vs. road ERA continues to jump off the screen: that's still a difference of almost a full runs allowed per nine innings. Not as pronounced as the split in May, but still pretty impressive. Our pitchers, clearly, love home cooking and our hitters are starting to warm to it. We'll check back in another month or so and at season's end to see where things stand.

Weird that both your pitching AND batting improve at home.

I'm gonna guess the batting falls off a cliff at some point here - especially without Simpson in the lineup.
