2040/6 Patchett is an Alien

Post by nerfHerder » Sat Oct 12, 2019 7:47 am

Another week goes by, and guess what? Another 3-3 week. At some point the win by 12 lose by 12 will have to stop if the postseason is to become a reality. Bullpen issues have slowed them down, and there isn't much help in the minors. Anyway, 22-15 is still pretty good. On to the observations.

Patrick Patchett was a beleaguered reliever for the Omahawks in
April of 2039. After sporting an 8.38 ERA, he was sent on waivers. Intrigued by his control and movement on his pitches (also a little bit desperate), the Tropics saw a guy that might be able to eat some innings. He ate 172.1 innings over 27 starts and carried a 3.92 ERA. It earned him a modest, low risk, three year extension. Fast forward to 2040, seven starts with a 2.74 ERA and a 4-0 record. This guy must be an alien.

Luis Costello finally got it going. After being a spark plug acquisition a season ago, the Love Machine got of to an extremely slow start. This week in 25 AB's he hits .360 with four HR and 6 RBI. It brings his season up to .253/.321/.479 with eight HR and 20 RBI. That's more like it. The club would rather he make it difficult to pass up an extension.

We can't underestimate the influence that Hawaii great Kelly Finley has had on this club. Arguably the best catcher to ever wear a Tropics uniform, he commands respect in the clubhouse. As a man that's only had two losing seasons in ten, he just wins. Tempermental by nature, he may be just what the Dr ordered to get this team back into contention. So far so good.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
