TVT 2040.1 - Rumors: Menne Offered Extension, Potential Free Agent Signings
We are finally in the off-season, so you know what that means? It's time to fantasize about Vancouver's young players and where the team will be in the next three seasons. However, the team will need a leader, someone who has been in the league for a long time to lead the locker room during tough stretches. That guy we are talking about is Rashardo Menne III.
Menne will be entering his final year of team control as he is eligible for free agency next season. As fans, we would all be devastated to see him leave after next season. He has been the one true star during this rebuilding process. However, rumors have been circulating indicating that GM Taylor Bettencourt has no intention of letting Menne leave the team. We have been told that Menne has been offered a maximum 6 year deal, totaling over $100 million. We do not know the exact parameters of this deal, so there is no way to know precisely how much money he has been offered. However, we at The Vancouver Times speak for the whole city by saying "Pay what the man wants!" The team has lots of money to play with since they have no long term commitments. So, we are hoping the city get a bit of rare good news some time soon.
We also have some more rumors to talk about. Vancouver fans have looked at their potential lineup next season and have noticed how there are not too many glaring holes as many young guys will presumably be taking spots next season, players like Fernando Castillo, Carlos Martínez, and Robbie Krok. However, other than the projected lackluster pitching staff, there is one glaring hole for the Mounties, and that is at first base. Masaki Sato is clearly a DH and while Richard Wishart was a solid late season signing, he showed a lackluster performance on the defensive side. The team doesn't have any game changing first base prospects either. So, what are the options on the market? Mark Simpson and Albert Gaona are the best first basemen on the market this off-season. Simpson is clearly better than Gaona, but Vancouver's interest in signing the players will depend on the player's demands and the interest from other teams. The team could also wait until next season for Manuel Marino. The 24 year old star is a great hitter, but a terrible defender, so it is probably best for the team to avoid Marino, especially considering his potential demands. The team could try converting Yasutoki Sato into a first basemen, but he could provide much more value on the trade market, potentially in a deal for a great starting pitcher.
Last season was the first off-season where GM Taylor Bettencourt was not completely bound to a tight budget. This year, he could spend as much as his heart desires. Exciting times lay ahead for Vancouver. The Pacific division better watch out. Yeah, we heard the podcast.
The rebuild continues. Thanks for reading!

I’d like the record to clearly state I had no negative words towards Vancouver. And, if I did, it was purely by accident.

Plus, I left the podcast early due to their constant bashing of Vancouver. I just couldn’t take it anymore.

I love it when podcasts become topics for TNs. I milked plenty of TNs and comments out of one a few seasons back. Haha
But for what it’s worth, Portland fans hate Vancouver. We are already posting billboards around the city!!!

If Portland gets a winning season before me, I'll disband the franchise.
