Phantoms Phanatics Week in Review Sept. 8-14

The Huntsville Phantoms went 0-6 last week …

Sorry, who?

Huntsville. The Phantoms?

Not familiar with them.

What do you mean you’ve never heard of them? They play in that big stadium downtown, the Opera House?

Huh. Well, I wouldn’t know. I only follow major league teams.

Ah. Well. That explains it.

News and Notes

With the season out of hand, Huntsville management will likely give most of the lineup and rotation regulars a break over the final weeks of the schedule and give the bench players and some veteran minor leaguers a chance to play. Among them, LF Craig Barber and 1B Wendell Clark … The Phantoms also recalled SP José Carlos Solíz from AAA. He will alternate between taking the rotation spots of SP Manuel Peña and SP Juan Nicto ... Amayas Moelling will be replaced in the rotation through the end of the season by RP Ángel Díaz.

AAA Carolina advanced to the second round of the Rupert Horn Memorial League playoffs, ousting the Gotham Heroes in the first round. The Flight lost the opening game of the best-of-3 series, but came back and won the next two at home. 1B Aarnoud Budding was named series MVP after going 5-10 with 2 runs and 5 RBIs over the 3 games … The Flight grabbed a 1-0 lead over the Milwaukee Choppers in their best-of-3 second round series. Carolina won the game, played in Milwaukee, in the 9th on a solo homer to right by C Sergio Hernández. SP Hector Reyes, who is working as the team’s closer in the playoffs, shut down Milwaukee in the bottom of the inning for his second post-season save … The series now moves to Carolina, with Vito Reyes and Yu-bao Tong the scheduled starters for the Flight … Short-Season A affiliate San Pedro de Macoris closed out its season by going 2-1, to finish at 32-38. The Green Sox ended the year in 4th place in the SL2 Big Islands Division, 9.5 games behind Santo Domingo … 2B Abdelwahab Kigoma finished off the year on quite a roll. In his last 10 games, he went 14-24. That’s a .583 average, with 4 HRs and 10 RBIs.

If you only had the 2039 Landis MVP, Hakim Ngowa, still on your squad...
