Some good and some bad. That ASG thing was a disaster though.recte44 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 11:25 amSo this is happening next Thursday.

Re: Two Commissioners In The Same Room
Here is my ranking of sports commissioners that I actually remember in my lifetime.
1. adam silver
2. david stern
3. paul Tagliabue
4. rob Manfred
5. bud selig
6. gary bettman
7. roger goodell
It is pretty indisputable that on selig's watch the "national pastime" ceded its position at the top of the sports ladder among the general public to the NFL and you can make a good case the NBA has passed it up as well. Sticking his head in the sand when it comes to steroids is pretty unforgiveable.

Re: Two Commissioners In The Same Room
Hear hear!!
All I know is Goodell makes over $30M to screw up Deflategate and the NFL's domestic violence issue, while marginally growing the league (probably more a credit to Tagliabue), while Recte works for free and handled Al Hootgate without public scrutiny and has expanded the Brewster to 38 teams with a waiting list for additional upcoming expansion.

Would someone mind giving a quick rundown of who Al Hoot was?

Re: Two Commissioners In The Same Room
Really need to do an FAQ on this. Cliff notes: Former GM. I think he was on the Governing board. When he quit (for whatever reason I don't recall), he deleted a significant portion of the forums. There is a lot more to it, but thats the quick and dirty.ThePreyingManta wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 4:28 pmWould someone mind giving a quick rundown of who Al Hoot was?

Re: Two Commissioners In The Same Room
Nah, but he blocked Baltimore getting a team again in the Jacksonville/Carolina expansion. Also made comments about the city building a museum with the money raised for the team. Just know growing up that people hated the guy around here.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 1:54 pmHe wasn't around for the whole Colts thing was he, I thought that was still Rozelle?

Re: Two Commissioners In The Same Room
Yup, on the Ravens message board I frequented through much of college ('04-'08), there was HEAVY anti-Tagliabue sentiment for the reasons you stated.bcslouck wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 2:18 pmNah, but he blocked Baltimore getting a team again in the Jacksonville/Carolina expansion. Agree with Silver being at the top. Slightly biased as he was a commissioner who actually focused on the benefits of sports gambling when many others distanced themselves from it as much as possible.
