Rule 5 Reminder
While I'm thinking about it...the Rule 5 draft will be two sims from now (Sunday!). As always, you'll be able to put guys on your 40-man roster after tomorrow's sim, but if you're like me you might have a tendency to forget...so it's never too late to start preparing for it.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
Thanks for the reminder - I had two minor league signings I’d forgotten about. Moved them both onto my 40-man after I saw this.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
What are the rules for the Rule 5 draft on minor league players that have recently been traded? I thought they were not eligible. Also, the same guy I'm looking at was 18 when he was drafted and is still only 21 (4 years of pro service time, not 5.)
Kevin Creelman is the guy in question. Bob Ramírez is the same way.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
But both were drafted before they were 18 and only have 4 years of pro service time as well.
The league uses guidelines inherent in OOTP to determine Rule 5 eligibility. As a general rule, players eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft are players who are not on their Major League organization’s 40-man roster and:
were signed at age 19 or older and have been in the organization for four years; or
were signed at age 18 or younger and have been in the organization for five years.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
Creelman and Ramirez each have 4 years, 186 days of pro experience...which is 5 year (172 days is technically a year. OOTP is HORRIBLE at labeling these things...which is why it's always best to look for the "#" symbol in the transactions/roster screen.
Bottom line, both are eligible if they aren't on your 40-man.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
Ah, what's the big deal, it's not like a player of Roberto Clemente's caliber ever gets taken in these things. What, what?!
On that note, anyone know of the most notable BBA Rule 5 selections of all-time?

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
Well, Boise took Augie Plascencia from Edmonton when the Jackrabbits left him unprotected during weirdness with their GM. Seeing that he was the #2 pick overall, I suppose that's a big one.

Re: Rule 5 Reminder
I took Jose Garcia from Yellow Springs in 2020 which was a big one at the time. Tim missed protecting him because he was on his DL and he didn't think to check there, if I recall correctly.
On a related note, I always sort the Rule 5 Pool by team and check all of my own teams to double check that I didn't miss protecting a guy I want to keep. It's kind of pokey but losing 10 minutes is better than losing a future starter.

I check the Rule 5 drop down on the Front Office > Finances screen. You can change one of the boxes and it'll bring up your whole list by level.Rubaboo wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 6:53 amI took Jose Garcia from Yellow Springs in 2020 which was a big one at the time. Also, I took Peadar McIihome last year and he worked out pretty well, at least last season. May at least be a decent platoon option going forward which I can live with. Job is probably still his to lose at this point though.
