Hawaii sends:
C Kevin Bulder and CL Byron Gonzalez
Madison sends:
C Hurley Reyes
That was a transfer of $11,000,000 (Hurley) per year for $600,000 a year, at least initially.
Former Hawaii remarks:
"I finally get the power bat that I've been seeking, and at not too bad of a cost, although Gonzalez will be a great closer in the future."
Madison admits it is a salary dump of Reyes.

Now I probably gotta dump Reyes's salary! HI is losing money every year.... Maybe Reyes brought in more fans I dunno. And I am bit afraid of fan reaction if I trade Reyes, seeing how he is mega-popular locally and nationally. We don't really need a fall off in fan interest. But I will lose him to free agency next season anyway.
But as for 2001 offensive numbers, Reyes and Bulder were almost the same in 2001. Wow.
Reyes:
Bulder:
and add
ByGonz, who Hi desperately needs in the pen, where we have 2 or 3 starters servings as MR:
Maybe who knew how well Bulder would do, I dunno. But on the other hand, HI already had a decent catcher:
Behnke who was signed through 2004.
But I know the potential of landing a superstar would be tempting, especially for a team that was treading wheels. Problem is, it is still treading wheels, now with less money. Anyway, that's just Alan's ANALysis. After the fact.

Oh well, let bygonz be bygonz!
