Hall of Fame Candidate Thread: Tully Crow

Post by RonCo » Mon Mar 11, 2019 4:54 pm

Here's the place to talk about the career of:

Tully Crow

Pitcher

Active Career: 2022-2037 (16 seasons)
144-126, 4.02, 2,068 K, 1.21 WHIP, 36.5 WAR
Landis Memorial Winner 2031, 2033
All-Star

Hall of Fame Metrics: (average HoF)
JAWS: 34.7 (70)
Black Ink: 5 (33)
Gray Ink: 65 (160)
HOF Standards: 21 (50)
HOF Monitor: 41 (126)
# At his peak, Tully Crow was a rock-solid top of the rotation kind of pitcher--a lefty who could throw the heater, curve, change combination as well as about anyone. He broke in with Tucson (LBC), lead the league in wins while with Vancouver, and captured the Landis with Jacksonville. He did, however, suffer a collection of injuries that dropped him off that peak fairly early. Seems to me like a Hall of Very Good kind of guy even if he'd stuck the landing of his career, but I'm going to be interested to see if I'm wrong. He may be helped by the limited number of pitchers in this class. Or not.

He'll be remember for something. Unfortunately that's not going to be the Hall of fame.

Didn't stay healthy toward the end. Probably wasn't good enough regardless.

I said if we let everyone in, it would turn into a retirement home of every past player. Tully could probably use the doctors that are on call most the time at nursing homes considering his injury history.

However he will have to go to the doctor like the rest of us, hes a no for me.

I may have been Tully Crow's biggest fan. No way he is a Hall of Famer. Interestingly, he only had one injury-plagued year (2033, but he came back for a full playoff run) and he averaged over 31 starts (plus 6 more playoff starts) in those other 4 seasons in J'ville. He just would always get nicked up in the playoffs.
