Welcome back, but for how long?

Hello Crusaders fans! Offie here, and well ... what a turn of events! Jesus Flores is coming back! .... huh ... Seems odd. I mean, I was almost certain we were going to be looking at a stopgap solution until Daryl Pris was ready. Instead, we gave Flores a 6 year deal structured as follows:
7.8, 4.8, 4.8, 4.8, 4.8(TO-1.0), 4.8(TO-1.0)
That looks like a pretty good deal! Especially considering he was asking for 15-17 per for 6 years prior to going to free agency. Weird.... Well, GM Ted Schmidt had this to say, "We weren't expecting to be in the market for players looking for long term deals, but when we saw the contracts some of the other middle infielders were taking, we figured it couldn't hurt to throw our hat in the race. We're happy with the deal and think it gives us flexibility going forward."
Hmm... I wonder what he means by flexibility. I suppose he could now view Pris as a trade asset, but historically Schmidt always trades away more expensive players to play cheaper players. Could he still be looking at Flores as a one year solution? Hmm ... you know, I bet that's it. That's why this is front loaded. Sure, pay him now, but make the contract more attractive to be sold down the road. Oh ... I hope someone told Mr. Flores, and he didn't take a hometown discount or something.

I offered him about $8 mil per year with 4 years. I guess he wanted to come home. Good deal.

I'm starting to think they just always take the most money, and ignore options for the most part. Were you just under 8? My total comes out to 31.8 mil. Or maybe all the recent winning does help. Who knows?indiansfan wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 6:09 pmI offered him about $8 mil per year with 4 years. I guess he wanted to come home. Good deal.
