I'm going to do something new this offseason with free agents, so I figured I'd rack up some easy PP as a way to research the market. It should help you guys to with some questions I'll later be asking you. We've been wondering how good OOTP is at players judging the market when deciding on player opt outs and options. It does feel like a mixed bag so far. So, before we get to the wonderful day where we all figure out who is screwed and who is not so much, let's see what we think. Remember, I'm asking you, SHOULD this player opt out. Not whether you expect them to do so. With each player I ask about, I'll try to give a little background. Feel free to discuss.
Jayden Harsnett
Harsnett, like so many others, has had problems staying on the field recently. His wRC+ the last three years have been 108, 135,134, with the most recent being the worst. His last few WARs are 2.3, 3.6, and 4.4, the 4.4 coming in a relatively full season. He has been a 109 wRC+, 2 win player throughout his career.
Harsnett is one of the harder players to figure out, as only the next two years are guaranteed for almost 36 mil, with another 40 mil in a vesting option and a team option. The vesting option is the hardest to figure out. It is for 500 PAs, and I don't think any of us know what OOTP makes of that. FWIW, Las Vegas is probably a desirable place for a player. Next year will be his age 31 season, so if he doesn't opt out, he can't hit FA again until 33 at the earliest.
Should Jayden Harsnett Opt Out of 35.96 Million that could Potentially Become 78.72 Million?

He's a good player, but not good enough to get that same contract in FA, imo. I'd advise him to stick it out. If he does, he'll either be a FA at 33 (if he doesn't vest) or 34 (if his TO is picked up) anyway, so he'll still be able to try and get a solid deal at that point, too.

Yeah, the only way he wins by opting out is if he get's a better deal guaranteed for year three and four than he'd get in FA...which is possible. But with so much young talent coming up, I'd take the bird in the hand right now.

Harsnett will always be a tale of unfulfilled potential in Twin Cities.
He should have been better
