2037 Nashville Goats Preview
2036 At A Glance
The Goats proved all the pundits wrong in 2036, putting together their first respectable season since 2030. The pitching staff did a great job, placing 7th in the JL in RA/G. There could be room for improvement too, as the lineup was a bit of a disappointment overall, finishing 11th in the JL with 4.4 R/G. Miguel Suarez and Francisco Luna were definitely the players who made this roster work.

2037 Quick Preview
The Goat look to take the next step up to winning club and playoff contender. There are a number of good bats and a few intriguing arms, but can the pitching staff repeat the relative magic of 2036? I'd say Brett is hoping the lineup hits to it's potential and becomes one of the better batteries in the league.
Additions: Dani López (FA), Arthur Norris (FA), León Ramírez (Trade)
Losses: Alfredo Perales (Trade), Miroslav Tomanek (Trade), Barney Everhart (FA), Atsumori Maeda (Injury)
Starting Lineup
C: Xie-li Luo (7/8/6/3/5 Ratings) / Ippolito Basaglia (5/6/7/7/7 Ratings)
1B: Miguel Suarez (8/8/8/5/8 Ratings)
2B: Manuel Martinez (7/6/5/3/8 Ratings)
3B: Sam Wade (6/8/5/7/8 Ratings)
SS: Tu-fu Yong (8/8/8/5/7 Ratings)
LF: Justin Jackson (8/9/9/5/7 Ratings)
CF: Abdelwahab Kamade (9/8/4/5/9 Ratings)
RF: Arthur Norris (6/6/8/7/7 Ratings)
DH: Dani Lopez (7/6/7/6/7 Ratings)
Suarez and Yong are monsters and I expect Jackson to take a step up into this category this year. Despite some shade thrown his way (primarily by myself), Kamade had a very good season. I still don't think he's elite (and he's surprisingly average in CF), but as the 4th best option and someone who is protected, I think he is a good leadoff hitter. Arthur Norris still has some left in the tank. He is a good addition and should be a solid #5 hitter. The rest of the lineup won't move the needle much, but there aren't any black hole either. The defense is also solid across the board, and while I don't think anyone will be challenging for a Zimmer, there aren't any weak links either. If this lineup produces to it's potential, they should be a top 6 offense and will provide a big boost to the club.
Rotation
Francisco Luna (8/6/6 Ratings)
Leon Ramirez (10/7/3 Ratings)
Arturo Cruz (8/5/9 Ratings)
Don Bird (7/6/5 Ratings)
Ramon Hernandez (9/5/5 Ratings)
I just don't really like this rotation. I think they had a ton of luck and are due for a correction this year. Luna is a solid lefty, but he's really a #3 and his ERA will hover closer to 4.00 than the 3.14 he put up last year. Leon Ramirez intrigues me. He will walk a ton, but as a lefty with 11 stuff and 7 mov, he should be able to limit runs with the solid defense behind him. The rest of the rotation is a collection of #5 starters. Likiliki is not quite ready yet, but he could be called upon later in the year if the team is in contention.
Bullpen
Jose Luna (10/6/8 Ratings)
Alan Dominguez (8/6/8 Ratings)
Steve Russell (7/7/9 Ratings)
Francisco Reyna (8/6/6 Ratings)
Kyle Wright (7/7/7 Ratings)
Wu-han Liu (10/7/4 Ratings)
Luna is the player that made Peter Grady expendable. As a rookie, Luna was solid and looks like a very nice closer. The rest of the bullpen is solid without being spectacular. Liu is likely the next guy into the rotation in the event of injury.
2037 Prediction
The offense should be much improved but the pitching could be due for a fall-off. I think the Goats will see their rebuild stall out a bit. I'm expecting an 83-79 record and a 3rd place finish in the division.
Prospects to Watch
CF Kidane Ata (9/10/9/5/7 Talents)
SP Eru Likiliki (10/6/8 Talents)
SP Felipe Montero (9/5/9 Talents)
SP Israel Villa (7/7/7 Talents)
SP Manuel Bruno (8/6/7 Talents)
2B/SS James Holman (6/8/6/6/6 Talents)
Ata and Likilliki look like potential superstars and Montero/Villa/Bruno could be a nice 3-5 in a rotation while Holman's ability to hit from both sides of the plate solidly make him a viable middle infield starter (I'd argue as early as this year). There are a few other prospects who could fill roles, but I don't think you're reading this (if you are reading it at all) to hear about guys who could be role players in 2040.

Re: THE PLAN....in action - A 2037 Nashville Goats Preview
Thanks Tyler. Yes, a lot of this season is hoping the luck/magic/just-good-enough of the pitching staff holds again to allow for the better offense to get us even further. Maeda getting hurt kinda stunk but how much he would contribute this year has definitely been on my mind.
A couple of updates/items: We'll be going with a 6-man rotation again this season. Kyle Elston will be getting his shot since he is out of options. And the bullpen will see Roberto Chávez instead of Wright, at least for a little while. Utility James Holman will be getting his chances off the bench this season. His versatility almost guarantees he'll get some shots at starting when the inevitable injury happens.
What I am really liking is that there is some decent depth on the club this season. Jesús Mojica can play 1st and 3rd and is at least serviceable in the corner OF spots. Even though he doesnt show any splits, he's a career .300/.342/.569 against lefties (compared to his .241/.286/.444 overall.) On top of being a Fan Fav, Gilberto Keating provides a LHB off the bench that can fill in anywhere in the IF (though we'll keep him away from SS if we can.) And Harold Smith isnt too bad for a 4th OF. And while there is nobody to spotlight down in the minors, there are at least some guys at each position (SP/RP/IF/OF) that can come up and hopefully be okay for a shorter time for any big league DL stints.
Now, I'm not predicting, or even secretly thinking about, as big of a jump in the win-column as we had last season, but if we can come close to whichever prediction you want to go with, and can maybe at least be pushing for a playoff spot at the trade deadline, it'll be a successful season.

Re: THE PLAN....in action - A 2037 Nashville Goats Preview
'Cotton' makes sense. I don't think he'll be great, but he's probably good enough as a lefty/LOOGY, especially since you don't really have any other lefty relievers. Unless he gets incredibly lucky, I don't see Elston having the stuff (and maybe not the control) to make up for his HRA. He'll never be much of a starter unless the change magically develops.

I wonder if the game can use him correctly? Like play him for 8 innings in CF, then bring in a defensive sub and let him pitch the 9th. That would be amazing but probably too much to ask.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Sun Dec 09, 2018 2:36 pmI love ata also, he can be a wipeout closer in addition to a star CF...
