M&M take home 3 awards.(36.19)

M&M Takes home 3 awards.

Emilio Morales & James Monger (8/7/8/5/9 Talents, .301/.358/.536, 33 HR, 117 RBI) were a crucial part of the Hawks success this past season and both were honored with various hardware to take home at the awards ceremony this past week.

Both Morales & Monger won the Charles Puckett Golden Bat award for the top hitter at each of the respected positions while Monger also added the Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove award for this work at 2nd base this season. Monger received 23 of a possible 28 votes.

Morales finished with 13 of 28 votes for the Diamond Glove at 3B, losing to Jesus Gonzales of Seattle by 1 vote.

Speaking of Morales, Emilio was a second place runner up for the MVP trophy, which went to a fellow member of the Heartland, Yellow Springs Lucas McNeill (9/9/8/7/7 Talents, .323/.414/.572, 31 HR, 125 RBI). Morales & McNeil were the only two players to garner more than 1 first place vote. It is plausible to assume James Monger (8/7/8/5/9 Talents, .301/.358/.536, 33 HR, 117 RBI) took some of the votes from Emilio Morales as Monger finished with 8 second place votes compared to Morales 5 second place votes, finishing 4th in the running.

“It’s an honor to be here tonight and be recognized among the best in the league today. There is an incredible amount of talent in the BBA so it is humbling to be here.” Said Morales.

“Full disclosure, when I was first asked to move from short to 2nd base, I hesitated because I had never played second base before. I thought I would have a bit of a hard time learning and that it would throw off my game at the plate. Kudos to the front office and to the coaches for getting me through this and now being recognized as one of the best” said Monger.

Also honored was Justin Niles, Omaha GM, who came within 15 points of California GM Ted Schmidt for FL GM of the year.

Niles speak in full:

“First of all, big congrats to Ted for building his team up the way he did. He is a very deserving candidate. I just want to look back a minute and reflect on the fact that this team was coming off a 49-113 season when I took the club back in 2029. Fan interest was rivaling an all-time low. This franchise deserved better. I want to thank all those who rode with us on the win totals I am about to name.

56 wins in 2030. I want to note quickly, we finished 59 games out of first place this year!
64 wins in 2031
69 wins in 2032
82 wins in 2033
82 wins in 2034
88 wins in 2035
Now 98 wins this past season.

We have improved every single year. What a ride it’s been.

Jimmy Starks, Ken Spencer (10/6/6 Talents, 6 - 2, 4.91 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 84 K), Eliseu Satino (8/9/6/4/9 Talents, .342/.384/.547, 6 HR, 22 RBI), Carson Stoller (9/7/7 Talents, 13 - 4, 3.51 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 114 K), James Monger (8/7/8/5/9 Talents, .301/.358/.536, 33 HR, 117 RBI). These are just a few of the guys we have drafted in those seasons who are now leading this team to 98 wins.

I can’t thank those around me enough, because we could not have done this without every person involved. But please…the goal is not forgotten. We need a Landis.”

I think the GM of the year is often simply a "best record" award. I voted for you and think you did a better job that I did this year. But, I appreciate the votes. I think it's just too much to ask so many GM's to all get on the same page about who improved or managed their team the best, so we all just default to best record as any kind of tiebreaker. I seems to work though, because if you have the best record, there was probably a year back there where you deserved GM of the year at some point.

I figure GM of the year is often won in the years prior to receiving the actual award.

I agree...If it's any consolation I voted for you as well haha. Very deserving. Just happy to be posting a winning record consistently now honestly.
