Sticking Points 2.2036: Rockville Back In Cartwright

Post by aaronweiner » Thu Nov 15, 2018 6:42 pm

For the third consecutive season, the Rockville Pikemen have found themselves in the deciding series for the JL pennant. Rockville knocked off the Las Vegas Hustlers in a heart-stopping seven-game series to earn the right to face the upstart Atlantic City Gamblers for the Johnson League crown.

"Obviously it's a big deal every time you beat the Hustlers, the team has so much history," said Doubleday Series MVP Mario Guerrer. "We're extremely excited to be back here again with another chance to win a title."

This is the second time in three years that Rockville has knocked out Vegas in the playoffs, and they couldn't have done it without the amazing contributions of this year's batting champion, Guerrer. The slugging first baseman is having his best season at the ripe old age of 24, and he posted a remarkable Doubleday: a .500 average, 3 homers, and 9 RBI in the seven game set.

"Mario's had such an amazing season, and for him to do this in this series just shows what kind of a man he's become," said Rockville manager Chet Rouse. "He's been our leader all year at the plate."

Upcoming for the Pikemen is a match against division rival Atlantic City, who impressively have knocked off 94-win Montreal and 100-win Jacksonville on their way to the Cartwright. Atlantic City would seem to be an underdog on paper, but won the season series 8-4 against Rockville (though lost a series in September to the Pikemen).

"Oh, that's a tough team," said Guerrer, who hit just .216 against Atlantic City's 9th-place pitching staff this year. "I just don't see the ball right against those guys - they can really pitch."
