Tropical Tidbits 36.04 - #freemartinez (no, not THAT Martinez)
595th overall pick, Manuel Martínez
Hurricanes double-A affiliate, Trois-Rivieres, has seen some impressive hitting performances in 2036. Catcher Abraham Segura had a .999 OPS and 172 wRC+ before his call-up a couple of weeks ago. Former 9th round pick Luis Silva has put up 2.0 WAR and 16 HR. Newcomers Moriz Shaparenko and Jimmy Brown have impressed. And top Jacksonville prospect, Brett White, is on pace to have one of the 10 best seasons in Warren Cox League history. White's 42 HR, .620 SLG, 160 OPS+, 6.5 WAR pace would rank as the top season in the team's history, even ranking above the epic 2026 and 2030 seasons put up by Norris Rutledge and David Noboru, the two seasons that put them on top prospect lists and even got Noboru called up mid-season.
However, all of these performances pale in comparison to the breath-taking numbers being put up by 1B/DH prospect, Manuel Martinez. After putting up 25 HR in SA and 27 HR in A the last two seasons, Martinez has slugged 37 home runs in AA in 2036! He's also hit .316/.453/.818 with a 234 OPS+ and 11.6 WAR pace (as a 1B)! These numbers would shatter the HR, RBI, SLG, OPS, and WAR league records. In fact, his 37 home runs is the 18th most in league history and he is just 3 HR from cracking the top 10....and we're only at the midway point of the season.
Manuel Martinez is on pace for 74 home runs, 22 more than the current league record of 52. Even Yunosuke Terada did not put up power numbers like that in the Warren Cox. The scariest thing about Martinez may be that he hasn't even filled out his power potential and has been a solid defensive 1B.
The major league roster may be packed with Norris Rutledge and Bertram Hahn, but it is clear Martinez has the talent to perform in AAA and has little left to prove in AA.

1B/DH/LF are definitely crowded right now with Rutledge/Hahn/A. Martinez/M. Martinez/White. Plus Bautista/Cartridge/Ramirez/Brown are all looking like they could be capable in some sort of mix-n-match platoon in a corner.
It's hard to see more than one of Rutledge/Martinez/Hahn coming back in 2037. It very well could be the beginning of the end for Rutledge. Though, if I can get value for Alfredo, there could be a potential Rutledge/Hahn DH platoon in 2037 with M. Martinez at 1B.

45 homeruns already!!??? Good lord.
Ahhh, just wait. Miracle bumps are always met with deflating lumps.

Hoping he holds up like Rutledge and Arbizo.

Martinez set the AA HR record and finished with a SLG over .800 before getting called up to AAA. In his 97 AAA at-bats, he was on a 40+ HR pace with a 1.228 OPS. He'll head down to the Winter League to get a few more innings at 1B
