The Outlaw Chronicles 2036-8 Draft Day 2

Draft Day Two

Day two of the amateur draft for the San Antonio Outlaws looked amazingly similar to the first with the selections of a SP and OF.

With the 49th pick in round 2, the Outlaws went back to the pitching pool and drafted 18 yr old Cuban Right Hander Raul Calderon. Calderon had defected tp the United States in January and immediately filed the paperwork with BBA to be included in the draft. The 6'2" right hander offers a 3 pitch assortment with his Fastball currently topping out at 93 mph. Calderon is a raw product with lively arm, but was considered the clear cut leader of the Cuban National Baseball Team. If he continues to progress at his current rate, he would fall into the middle rotation starter category but there is always the chance he could catch fire and become more than that.

Three picks later, the Outlaws chose LF Tony Vega. One of the better pure hitters left on the board, Vega is predicted to have excellent Contact and Power. Questions remain as to where he will eventually play defense, with his OF skills average at best, some scouts thinking he should be moved to First base to see if he can make the switch. Either way he brings a tremendous amount of hitting prowess to the organization.

This draft has shown to be deep with quality atheletes and promises to be one of the better drafts in recent memory.

I like calderon, he was actually on my list for my first rounder (actually the last one left from that list). That is good value.

Looking at the draft there is still some decent quality out there. This has been a deep draft.
