Atlantic City Tides Y2K5 - Burns Swings and Misses. Again

Ladies and gentlemen, the Atlantic city Gamblers have made history. Well one of them has made history. That man is not Ross White or Jim Brochtrup, but it is starting leftfielder Jay Burns.

And what history did he make? Well thanks to a torrent of KKKKKKK, Burns ha struck out 230 times during the 2000 regular season. Thats an MBBA Record, besting the 228 strikeouts that Pepper Brooks accumulated during his 1996 season. Burns 230 punch outs do not come as a surprise - the Gamblers always knew he had it in him, they just tried to limit his playing time so they wouldnt accumulate so high.

Burns has not totalled 882 strikeouts in 5 seasons, an average of over 176 whiffs per year. He has only played in 716 games during that time, so he is well well over one punchout a game.

Burns posted a career worse 716 OPS this year, which surely effected his ability to NOT strikeout. He earned his playing time thanks to his power - 19 homeruns, 11 triples last year, and his 832 OPS wasnt as bad as this years abysmal performance. Just look at the bright side, he could have played in 2 more games than his 160 on the season. If his current average held, and he played 162 games, it would have earned him 3 more Ks on the year!

Congrats to Jay Burns, the new king of swing..............and miss.

perhaps im not reading something right but it looks like Brooks k'd 238 times and is still the record holder.

In 6 seasons he has 947 Ks in 783 games.
1.21 per game.
Good thing he knocks in runs.

Fail. forgot to look at current season. Maybe we cna get this fixed when current season is added to history totals - other leagues have that scrolling total.....

yeah I never really noticed Burns total this year until recently., I just always usually overlook K's. But this was too much to pass up.
