2033.04 - I'd pop a cap in Sancho

That is exactly what the Jimmies did with newly acquired starting pitcher Sancho Delgado.

A trade the team was happy with at the time, they thought they had veteran mid-rotating starter while also sheding current and future salary in moving Felipe Soto. On March 15th, 2 days after he was acquired, Delgado tore his UCL and will be out of baseball action for the next 13-14 months. With him set to be a free agent after this season, the team decided to cut him. The move was made to get his money off the salary expenses so the team could free up money salary cap wise to make any future moves. Sancho is still due to be paid the full $12.5M he was set to make this year by the Jimmies.

"It's unfortunate," said GM Brandon Slouck. "We clearly wish him the best in his recovery. If we had more wiggle room cap wise or weren't trying to compete, we'd hang on to him in hopes of maybe giving him a look next season. But it just isn't in the cards and after talking to the owner, it was decided to cut a check for what he's due and move on."

"It's business," a clearly frustrated Sancho Delgado told reports. "I was really looking forward to moving to a team with a chance to win. Felt good. I don't know. I understand the move with the league having a salary cap. I'd rather of stayed so I could rehab with them but what can you do."

Sources within the Jimmies have indicated that the team plans to keep in touch and offer up Spring Training facilities for rehab in hopes they can resign him next offseason barring his rehab goes well.

The team also cut Jorge Stanza, who is set to miss the next 5 months with shoulder inflammation. The oft-injured former Blazer was seen as a low risk signing at the time and was also a casualty of creating salary cap space.

Both injuries leave the team uncomfortably weak at starting pitcher once again. Top prospect Norberto León has been recalled after being not deemed ready with a rough spring and having issues getting through small, nagging injuries. The team wanted to send him back to AAA to get some innings while also trying to get him to toughen up a bit, but it looks like for the time being he'll be going through it with the big league club. He will enter the year as the team's 5th starter.

Probably the best move under the circumstances. Sucks to hit the annual Tommy John lottery, eh?

Yep. Had to pay him anyway. Might as well cut him so I have cap room. I was hoping to avoid it since I took a hit last season but I guess I'm just lucky.

Yikes. Been through that one before. Sucks when any player becomes a lost cause.
