But on the flip side if your team is generally better than your opponents then it can make you lose some extra games. The season is still really, really early and I highly advise not getting overly jumpy based on the results thus far, BUT, you are currently playing .500 at home and .188 on the road. That is at the very least a trend worth watching.
As far as I can tell, it's just plain old bad luck. I once again have 5 or so starters with BABIPs in the .220 or worse range. Last year, once those normalized, I was winning. The annoying thing is this seems to be how I start EVERY DAMN YEAR.

Carlyle just had that old guy range lump that took him from "plus defender at third" to "I have no third base rating at all". My most hated of OOTP things. Makes zero sense.

I got that with Tisnal Blythin this year. Not quite the same impact.

I kinda slightly disagree that it makes no sense. Ever play 3b? If your range drops to the point you cannot get to ground balls down the 3rd base line anymore, yea you literally cant play 3b anymore. End of story.

I agree that its too steep of a cliff but the real problem is OOTP lets guys with low range stay good at 3b for too long in the first place.

Well, he can still play the position. He just doesn't have a rating there anymore (and will probably have a terrible ZR). But he'll still field the position as effectively, as far as the balls he is able to get to are concerned. (he can still have as good of a fielding percentage as always)
